I am having a high voltage system box fault. I am within warranty but the dealership is denying me. My in service date is 6-2016.
The component that failed appears to be the hybrid propulsion and charging system, including the high-voltage battery management system and/or integrated charging electronics. The vehicle will not accept a charge from any home or public charging source. The high-voltage battery was replaced approximately one year ago; however, the charging failure persists. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. In addition to the charging failure, the vehicle displayed drivetrain malfunction and start/stop malfunction warnings. While driving on the highway at normal speed, the vehicle lost power and stopped, creating a hazardous situation in active traffic. This sudden loss of propulsion placed my safety and the safety of other drivers at risk, as surrounding vehicles were traveling at highway speeds. Prior to the failure, warning messages appeared intermittently, including charging system faults and start/stop malfunction alerts. These warnings began approximately one year ago around the time the charging issue started. The vehicle was previously serviced and the high-voltage battery was replaced; however, the underlying issue was not corrected. The root cause is UNKNOWN, but the symptoms suggest a failure within the hybrid control system, charging module, DC-DC converter, or related electrical components. The failure has been persistent and unresolved. I am concerned that defects within the hybrid propulsion system may lead to additional sudden loss of power events.
During a recent auto collision my airbags did not deploy. I swerved to avoid another vehicle entering the intersection from my left, he hit my rear left driver's side quarter panel and I subsequently hit a tree. This was noted by the paramedics first on scene as well as by the firemen and police when they arrived. I have notified BMW of North America, USAA insurance (my insurance company), and now you. Subject: Consequential Damage and Failure of Remedy regarding Recall 24V-608 Incident Description: "I am reporting a failure of the manufacturer to provide an effective remedy for Safety Recall 24V-608 (Electric Water Pump) and subsequent consequential damage to the High-Voltage battery system. In September 2023, at approximately 78,000 miles, this vehicle exhibited 'Drivetrain Malfunctions' including Fault Code 0x222626 (EME: internal fault - active short circuit requested) and 0x22271C (Overvoltage in intermediate circuit). The BMW dealer (Fields BMW) failed to diagnose the root cause and instructed me to 'keep driving'. Since the release of Recall 24V-608, it is clear these 2023 faults were early indicators of the coolant pump short-circuiting. This persistent electrical instability has now resulted in a permanent failure of Cell Supervision Circuit #3, causing the high-voltage contactors to open and leaving the vehicle disabled. The dealer is currently attempting to charge for diagnostics and battery removal. I am asserting that the lack of a timely remedy for the coolant pump (which was only recently shielded per the recall) caused a power surge that 'fried' the internal battery circuitry. This is a safety issue as the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of propulsion while in motion. I request that NHTSA investigate BMW’s refusal to cover battery failures caused by the electrical interference of the recalled coolant pump."
Because of this water intrusion, the following safety systems have malfunctioned or failed: • ABS and DSC (stability control) warnings • Chassis stabilization warning • Frontal collision and pedestrian warning malfunction • Airbag system warning • Loss of audible warning tones • MOST bus communication failure • Electrical modules intermittently shutting down or throwing codes These failures affect braking, stability control, crash avoidance, and driver alerts, creating a significant safety risk while driving. This is not normal wear or maintenance. Many BMW owners have reported the same issue: clogged or poorly designed sunroof drains that route water directly into areas containing critical electronics. Once water reaches these modules, it causes electrical shorts and safety system failures that require expensive repairs. BMW dealerships typically diagnose this as “water damage,” but the location of the drains and the placement of the electronics indicate a design flaw that allows a simple drain issue to disable major safety systems. I am filing this complaint because the water intrusion should not be able to cause total failure of ABS, DSC, collision warning, and airbag-related systems. I am reporting a safety issue related to the BMW recall 18V-755 affecting the EGR cooler on my 2016 BMW X5 diesel. My vehicle experienced symptoms consistent with a failing EGR cooler, including coolant loss and engine warning lights. Despite this recall being active for my model and VIN, BMW has denied coverage, stating either that the cooler was already replaced twice or that my vehicle is not eligible—without providing sufficient documentation or explanation. I am concerned that the recall remedy was not properly applied or that faulty replacement parts were used. The Vehicle has (97,000 K), and the BMW dealer would not cover the costs. However there's TSB published for this vehicle, yet its not being honored by the dealer who claims that the Emissions warranty expired after 8 years or 80,000 miles.

My water pump recall involves an electrical short circuits, that has disrupted other nearby electrical components, like the temperature sensor. • The water pump short-circuit is causing an oil leak directly that is putting a strain the engine and turbo system. • Additionally, a faulty water pump or sensor allowed unnoticed overheating, further stressing the turbocharger seals and leading to dangerous oil leaks oil continues to leak into the turbo system, damaging my turbocharger, exhaust system, and even the catalytic converter • Temperature Sensor Failure: Overheating can cause catastrophic damage to the engine, including warping the head or blowing a gasket. • Electrical Short Circuit: The recall issue is directly responsible for electrical malfunctions that are masking underlying problems, like overheating.

While running house errands April 26,2024, late in the afternoon around 4:15 pm to 4:30 pm or so estimated BMW X5 suddenly shutdown in the middle of road from a major stop light intersection with no warning signs displayed on the dashboard no display of any indicators on the dashboard just suddenly shutdown car would not move & could not operate the car : many cars behind us were inconvenienced & some drivers pissed off since I was blocking traffic Called towing services & got the the car finally moved physically to our home address : hazard signal could not be operated due to shutdown off the car Very scary & a major safety concern for me & wife due to this incident on top creating a very stressful situation & scenario for road conditions due to the car incident How can a car suddenly shutdown & not able to operate it w no warnings for any driver ? I was driving the car when this incident took place Please investigate this matter as it’s very concerning from a risk & safety matter
Vehicle looses power with " Powertrain Malfunction' displaying on the dashboard. Several codes for the Hybrid Battery failure. Per BMW USA, Hybrid System has 8 years 80000 mile warranty. BMW USA and or authorized BMW Dealership does not want to honor the warranty, claiming the Hybrid Battery might have been OVERUSED. Vehicle only has 65K miles and it is within the warranty period.
Hello, I took this vehicle in for a service at 100,000 miles. Part of that service was to change the transmission fluid. While the BMW dealership replaced the fluid, they found that the level was higher than it should have been. They voluntarily removed the transmission, and found that the electric drive buffer spring had been making extremely excessive contact with the transmission, so much so that the buffer spring had worn a hole in the transmission casing. Not a single code, or check engine light had illuminated saying there was anything wrong with any part of the transmission. The only reason this was found was because of regularly scheduled preventative maintenance. After discussing options with the BMW dealership, their recommendation was to put it back together as is, drive it to somewhere like CARMAX, and trade it in with the issue, since it was not showing any faults, codes, or errors with the transmission. The BMW dealership also stated this is not the first X5 edrive that they have seen with the exact same problem, so there is the start to a trend with this vehicle. The transmission could have failed even more catastrophically while driving at highway speed, with no indications that a long term problem was occurring within the transmission, as there is no sensor or error that is being monitored for this type of failure. Although the problem was found at 100,000, the BMW service has stated this issue must have been going on for a significant amount of time for the significant amount of damage. Passenger restraint system malfunction light comes on.
The engine light came on while I was 250 miles from home and on a Saturday. Was able to contact my dealer's service department who said to drive home and just monitor for any issues and hopefully it will be ok. I brought the vehicle in for diagnostic check following week. Faults were for the diesel particulate filter sensor and recommended $1300. replacement. They couldn't tell me if this part would impair the driving ability of the vehicle, but the cost seemed excessive for a sensor so I haven't made the repair yet (nor driven far) pending checking more into this. They said the vehicle may go into limp mode at any time which would be a safety issue. This sensor has been on a limited warranty extension-10 years/120,000 miles for the same model/engine as mine for 2014-2015 models (mine is 2016). [XXX] with 2016 X3 added in 2019. I have to ask why the 2016 yr with a faulty sensor like mine is not part of this extended warranty?? My vehicle has 80K miles and 8 yrs old.and the dealer says the part is faulty. The electronic A/C compressor destroys itself internally on BMW hybrid and electric vehicles and should be considered defective. The A/C compressor is used to cool the cabin as well as the high voltage battery packs, and is considered an emissions component warranties for 7 years or 70,000 miles. Without a functioning A/C system the vehicle cannot charge or use the high voltage batteries. If the electric A/C compressor fails it could cause the high voltage battery system to overheat and risk of fire. I just had it replaced at 75,508 miles before it completely failed and there are plenty of other owners of BMW hybrid or electric vehicles experiencing the same.
Service Repair light is on indicating there is an issue but when you go to check there is no issue showing. I checked into the BMW service In Southampton with a complaint that the time on the dashboard wasn’t synching for daylight time savings. They said they’ll troubleshoot it. They did a hard reset with the battery and gave me the car back with service light on which wasn’t on when I drove into the service. I had the car serviced for 60k miles and they said this is a typical issue with 2016 BMW with electrical malfunction and it would cost anywhere from $200-$2500 to fix it. Now I am unable to get alerts on my vehicle. This is a big safety issue for me and my family as well as other vehicles on the road if anything goes wrong with the car, I won’t know what is the issue.
2016 BMW X5. CONSUMER WRITES SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR DEF TRANSFER PUMP REPAIR.
I have received two emails from two different shop foreman’s. One from Niello BMW and the other BMW Fairfield. They both said the malfunctions I am experiencing- slipping, delay in accelerations- is the way BMW manufacturer made the car. One foreman said all the cars like mine he has driven have the same issue. It is a hybrid that needs the hybrid battery to have charge to not experience these malfunctions, but the car was not made to allow me to have constant battery charge as it only lasts up to 14 miles for 2016 X5 40e hybrid. I’ve been in situations where charging is not possible- like on vacation at a hotel with no way to charge car. Due to this, I have to deal with these malfunctions that BMW says is not fixable. This has put me in situations where I’m at risk of an accident because my car won’t properly accelerate when I need it to. The approximate date I’ve given is only one situation, but has happened several times before and after.
My bmw x5 40e is having issues accelerating from a dead stop. My safety was put at risk because I was stuck in the intersection going very slowly even after put the accelerating pedal to the floor. It did not properly engage until I got to the other side of the intersection and the stoplight went back to red. It has happened several times after. BMW North America stated that they could not duplicate but the foreman actually did feel it when pulling the car up the day I was to pick it back up and recorded the issue. There were no warning lamps or faults and still do not show any faults, though it still has the same issue. BMW North America Engineer was shown a video I recorded of it in a parking garage going to 4000 rpm but speed remaining under 10 mph for proof after they returned the car to me and he still states “vehicle is operating as designed”. I noticed 2016 bmw x5 40e has a recall on it but only for those produced 7/2015-9/2015, mine was produced in 2/2016. Yet, when reading the recall my car acts very similar to the discription. This is a safety hazard because it puts me at an increased risk of a crash. I cannot get my car worked on because BMW of North America says nothing is wrong with it and won’t allow it to be fixed. We have tried talking to several people with bmw North America and they either say nothing can be done or stop communicating with us. I’ve tried communication through both email and phone.
"Driver restraint malfunction" appeared on the vehicle's dashboard. Brought car to dealership for investigation,and they suggested replacing the unused airbag with a new airbag.
Oil leak leads to car smoking (but not overheating( while driving or parked. Leak was not caused by owner and same oil leak without car overheating apparent in partner's BMW car. This suggests fundamental issue with BMW not the ower, which BMW should repair without cost to the owner.
BMW NA is aware of this problem with the sunroof leaking water on the dashboard and damaging the electrical of the car. BMW NA is colluding with the dealers to inform customers they are clogged to charge them money for a clog that is non existent. The sun roof are not clogged as BMW NA and the dealers are saying I have video of the unclogged drain tubes and have caught the dealers all lying that they are clogged. I have video of this and can reproduce this collusion again again with the dealers lying.

The contact took the vehicle to a dealer who informed him that the failure was related to the electronic power steering assist and was given an estimate for the repair. Auxiliary cooling fan failed but engine light did not turn on causing EME fault. Cooling fan had to be replaced and overheated my engine.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
While I was stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle started giving warning after warning. This included "Drive Train Failure", "Cannot Charge", "Roll over detection" etc. Then the car went into Neutral and would not move. That stranded me in a very unsafe location in the middle of the busy intersection. The vehicle's computer system appears to crash like a laptop would.
Since 12v battery is down towing truck driver tried to jump start the car, there is no way to move the car, he failed to start car so move manually for towing to BMW service center. they reported EME(controller computer) Board damage, and BMW guessed jump start could damage, so insurance appraiser came to review and rejected this because BMW said there is no way to prove this, and then they charged EME B/D that is very expensive($9500) this is second time 12v Battery fail, it always make additional problem and make the car be unstable, I think this is design electrical issue
Our 2016 BMW X 5 axle is broken. Can't drive ( very loud noise ) steering and directional control are a safety risk. We purchased new on 9/19/2015 and are the original owners . The car has approximately 60,000. plus miles on it. Living in Ketchum ID we have had all service and Maintenance work done locally because it is 160 miles to Boise ID. We also have a home in Cincinnati OH. where our second car is also a 2016 BMW X5, as was our 2007 and our 2002 X5's. Our local mechanic diagnoses is a broken front axel !! We hope BMW will make a one time exception to tow our 2016 X5 to Boise ID. BMW dealership and have it repaired at no cost to us. We also own presently two Mini Coopers and had one previous Mini also. My BMW X5 suddenly will have the power steering fail, then it will start working again. This issue will happen occasionally and is dangerous. There was a recall campaign 16v-704 on January of 2017 that the BMW x5's stating the following "BMW is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall involving certain Model Year 2015 - 2017 vehicles’ Electronic Power Steering (EPS) control unit." SOS Automotive in Covina, CA diagnosed this vehicle and said the EPS has to be replaced. Either my car was not addressed by BMW or should have been addressed and fixed. The price to fix this is over $4,000 and the mechanic said he rarely sees an EPS fail. The electric drivetrain, electric engine and the gasoline malfunctioned while the car was driving at speed from 40-50 miles. The car was build with two engine, the electric motor and a twin turbo gasoline engine. The Electronic drivetrain system was designed for first off start the electric engine will drive car until the battery is depleted then the gasoline engine will take over or some time inter exchange the drive. The problem was in cold weather regarding event with the electric battery is fully charged while driving at speed from 30 miles up to 50 miles per hours the electric engine stall for 5-10 second and the gasoline engine does not run either. As result the car was moving at speed 30-50 mile per hours with no power pushing the car at all, when the driver push on the accelerator pedal the car electric engine or the gasoline engine is not respond in 5-10 second. When driving under certain condition that needed the driver to change lane or accelerate the car out of traffic the car simply stall and not respond in 5-10 second on the road or freeway during traffic hours is serious dangerous. BMW does acknowledge of the problem and called " Electrical Machine Electronics' EME wiring harness connector warranty but not recall or admit the dangerous nor the serious of the issue. BMW simply sending out letter to car owner saying due to customer satisfaction regard EME common issue they extend the EME (Electrical Machine Electronics) to 10 years/120,0000 miles warranty. And this is not recall just an extend warranty. BMW even explained by their own word in the letter "if the issue occur your vehicle will store the corresponding fault codes that will be generated, and additionally, the malfunction Powertrain Malfunctions warning light will be on with an illuminated." I took the car to dealer, they keep the car 3 days concluded it was faulty batter cable, charging me $680, one month later same issue, they claim the car batter was the issue, replaced, same issue again
BMW notified me that the connected drive services would not function on my 2016 BMW X5 after Feb 2022. BMW’s failure to assure the functionality of its safety options beyond 5 years of use is inexcusable and unbelievable as is the claim that there is no technical fix. I am almost 80 years old and the features that I will lose are even more important to me now than they were when I purchased the car .BMW chose to put obsolete 3 g technology in the 2016 X5, on the cheap, instead of the 4g technology that had been available since 2010. BMW must have known that 3g had a limited life span since BMW should had a similar problem with older models BMW cars with 2 g that they upgraded for customers
Due to a phasing out of the 3G network by cellular carriers, BMW ConnectedDrive/BMW Assist services, such as BMW Assist eCall, Advanced Real-Time Traffic information, Remote Services, and BMW Online will no longer be supported starting February 2022 for select vehicles. The decision to phase out 3G network technology was made at the discretion of the respective cellular carriers and lies beyond the control of BMW. While we understand your disappointment with the discontinuation of the ConnectedDrive services, due to the hardware included in your vehicle at the time of manufacture, there is not a technology upgrade available that would allow you to continue to use these services after the expiration of your contract or February 2022, whichever comes first.
WHENEVER I GET TO A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN, THE VEHICLE GOES INTO PARK ON ITS OWN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO COGGIN BMW 05/05/2021 AND THEY SAID MAYBE IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH THEY DID BUT THE VEHICLE STILL GOES INTO PARK ON ITS OWN. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY 05/13/2021. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE ALL HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET IN PORT SAINT LUCIE, FLORIDA. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. I DO NOT HAVE ANY RECEIPT TO SHOW BECAUSE COGGIN BMW STATED THAT SINCE THEY ONLY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE THEY DID NOT ISSUE A JOB TICKET. THE TECHNICIAN DID INDICATE THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE IS BACK IN THE SHOP, IT GOES INTO PARK WHEN YOU STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN.
FRONT DRIVESHAFT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESS WEAR, PERHAPS TRANSFER CASE AS WELL. VERY SIMILAR TO SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 17V-138:FROM APRIL/2017 (SAME ISSUE, MY MODEL IS ONE YEAR OLDER THAN RECALL NOTICE), BUT BMW NA WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR COST FOR THIS DEFECT.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 70 MPH ON A CLEAR DAY AND THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND FROM THE ROOF. I THEN HEARD AIR AND GLASS. AT THAT TIME I FIGURED OUT THE SUNROOF BROKE. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO STOP I FOUND A HUGE HOLE IN THE SUNROOF.
MY 2016 BMW X5 E40 STALLED AND LOST ALL PROPULSION POWER MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, THE FIRST TIME AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND THE SUBSEQUENT TIMES AT AROUND 25 MPH, FORCING ME TO DRIVE THE CAR ONTO THE SHOULDER AND TRY TO RESTART IT. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY KIND AND NO WARNING LIGHT GIVEN PRIOR TO THE STALLS, IT SIMPLY JUST LOST ALL PROPULSION POWER. WE WERE TRAVELING UPHILL ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND WERE FORTUNATE TO NOT BE IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER THE STALL A WARNING INDICATOR MESSAGE INDICATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC START/STOP MALFUNCTIONED. THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY RESTART AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES WITHOUT ANY WARNING INDICATOR AT ALL, AND THE PROBLEM WILL RANDOMLY REPEAT ITSELF WITHOUT WARNING. PROPULSION DOESN'T SLOWLY STOP, IT CUTS OUT COMPLETELY WITH NO WARNING. THE BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE INTERNAL TO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 89,000 MILES ON IT.
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, THE SUNROOF EXPLODED. NOTHING HIT THE CAR TO CAUSE IT TO BUST.
AIR COMPRESSOR ABSORBS MOISTURE AND PREVENTS VALVES FROM OPENING AND INFLATING AIRBAGS AROUND 4 YEARS OR 60-70K MILES. THIS BREAKS DOWN TO ABOUT A $3200 REPAIR FROM THE DEALERSHIP OR AROUND $2400 FROM AN AUTHORIZED BMW MECHANIC. BOTH PLACES HAVE INFORMED THAT THEY ARE SEEING A TON OF THESE REPAIRS THIS YEAR. FOR AN AIR COMPRESSOR TO BE BLOCKED, AND THE SILICA GEL COMPLETELY ABSORBED WITH MOISTURE ON A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE, IT'S UNACCEPTABLE. THE SIGNS OF THIS MALFUNCTION ARE THAT THE REAR END WILL SAG AND NOT PROPERLY INFLATE (IF AT ALL). SOMETIMES IT WOULD DEFLATE WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE THE WHEELS TO SLAM AGAINST THE CHASSIS, RISKING MUCH MORE SEVERE AND PERMANENT DAMAGE. IN SHORT, THE VEHICLA CANNOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL THE ISSUE IS REPAIRED, AND CAN BE LIFE THREATENING IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY OURS WENT OUT IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ON THE WAY TO THE STORE AND WE WEREN'T DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY GETTING THROWN ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE FEELING IS LIKE EXTREME AIR TURBULENCE BOUNCING YOU UP AND DOWN. MY CHILD ALMOST VOMITED FROM THE BOUNCING. THERE SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING HAPPENING WITH THE F15 X5'S AND BMW NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS.
REAR AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED ON A DRIVEWAY, AND WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT ANY IMPACT (COLLISION, BUMP, POTHOLE, ETC). THERE WAS A LOUD BAG AND BOTH COMPRESSION SPRING COMPLETELY DEFLATED, THE CAR ESSENTIALLY DROPPED TO THE AXIL, RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE AND UNCONTROLLABLE BOUNCING. UPON MECHANICAL INSPECTION A FUSE HAD BLOWN BUT ALL COMPONENTS OF THE REAR AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM WERE INTACT EXCEPT FOR A VERY SMALL PINHOLE LEAK IN THE RIGHT REAR AIR SHOCK. THERE WAS NO WARNING! NO WARNING LIGHTS, INDICATORS OR SENSOR ACTIVATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE OR FOLLOWING THE FAILURE. I'M CONCERNED THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY, DESIGN FLAW IN THE VEHICLE'S REAR SUSPENSION AND SINCE THERE IS NO WARNING, WHATSOEVER, IT COULD HAPPEN ANY TIME, EVEN A HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHICH I FEAR COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH THE CAR WAS 4 YEAR AND 3 MONTHS AND 54K MILES IN SERVICE.
WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY THE AIR BAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON AFTER A LOUD POP NOISE WAS HEARD ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. WE THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BMW FOR A SAFETY INSPECTION. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED INITIAL REPORT WHERE THEY CLAIM THE AIRBAG HAS FAILED AND WANT US TO PAY $3000 TO REPLACE IT.
I WAS DRIVING MY BMW X5 AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30PM ON INTERSTATE 93 GOING NORTH IN MASSACHUSETTS, WHEN I HEARD A EXPLOSION ABOVE MY HEAD. I IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE HIGHWAY TO EXAMINE WHAT HAD CAUSE THE EXPLOSION. WHEN I EXAMINED THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED A HUGE CRATER IN THE CENTER OF THE SUNROOF WITH SHARDS OF GLASS COVERING MOST OF THE CRATER WHERE THE INTACT SUNROOF WAS LOCATED. I DID NOT NOTICE AND OBJECT THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSE THE EXPLOSION, NO ICE- IT IS WINTER IN MASSACHUSETTS, NO ROCKS THAT MIGHT HAVE IMPACTED THE SUNROOF TO CAUSE THE EXPLOSION, THE ONLY THING THAT WAS VISIBLE TO ME WERE BROKEN GLASS. PRIOR TO THIS EVENT, I HAD NO REASON TO BE CONCERNED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SUNROOF, I HAD NEVER HEARD ANY SOUNDS COMING FROM THE SUNROOF AND I NEVER HEARD OR SAW A ROCK, PIECE IF METAL OR ANY OTHER OBJECT IMPACTING THE ROOF OR SUNROOF.
DRIVER WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THEY HEARD A LOUD NOISE AT THE REAR OF THE CAR AND FELT THE STEERING BECOME UNSTEADY. DRIVER LOOKED AT REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW A BLACK OBJECT FLY FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR ONTO THE HIGHWAY. DRIVER PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER AND FOUND THAT A LARGE PIECE OF THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS GONE. THE TREAD ON ONE OF THE REAR PIRELLI SCORPION VERDE TIRES HAD PEELED OFF THE TIRE. THE IMPACT FROM THE LOOSE TREAD CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE REAR OF THE CAR. AT NO TIME DID THE TIRE LOSE AIR PRESSURE NOR DID ANY WARNING LIGHTS TURN ON TO INDICATE ANY TIRE TROUBLE. LUCKILY NO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY WERE HIT BY THE LARGE TIRE TREAD WHICH FLEW FROM THE CAR AND INTO ONCOMING HIGHWAY TRAFFIC.
THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF SHATTERED AFTER CLOSING THE DRIVER DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A PARKING LOT.
IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR WITH NO REPAIRS ON THE CAR. WE'VE TRIED TO TRADE IT OFF AT A DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSED TO EVEN TAKEN IT IN ON A TRADE BECAUSE THERE IS NO FIX. WE ARE BEING HELD HOSTAGE IN A VEHICLE THAT IS NOW WORTH NOTHING BECAUSE THEY WONT' FIX IT. EVERY TIME WE HAVE IT SERVICED THE COOLANT IS LOW BUT CONTINUE TO SAY ENGINE TESTS FINE.

THERE WERE WORKERS OUTSIDE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES BEFORE COMING IN TO THE HOUSE THAT WITNESSED IT SITTING THERE FOR THAT AMOUNT OF TIME. AFTER BEING INSIDE FOR ABOUT 5 MORE MINUTES OR BETTER, I WENT TO LEAVE AND FOUND THAT MY CAR HAD ROLLED AND HIT A TREE. THE PARKING BREAK WORKED SEEING THAT THERE WAS SNOW BUILT UP ON THE BACK TIRES, HOWEVER, YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES ROLLED. BMW LOOKED INTO IT AND SAID THE CAR DIAGNOSTICALLY CHECKED OUT FINE AND THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR BOTH FRONT TIRES TO ROLL WHILE IN PARK???
WHILE DRIVING, ALL OF SUDDEN, DASHBOARD BECOMES BLANK. I BROUGHT THIS POINT TO BMW BELLEVUE DEALER. IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUE IDENTIFIED. HOWEVER, IT OCCURRED A COUPLE OF TIMES IN A YEAR. SINCE I WAS DRIVING 35-SPEED LIMIT ROAD, I PULLED THE VEHICLE AND STOPPED THE ENGINER AND THEN RESTART. THE ISSUE DISAPPREAD. I'M NOT SURE WHAT WOULD BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF IT WHEN I'M DRIVING AT HIGHWAYS OR AT HIGH SPEED.
ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER STICKER BMW X5 5.0 GETS 15/21MPG. I WISH I GET ANYWHERE NEAR THAT. I GET ABOUT 11 AVERAGE MPG. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TWICE AND I CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA AND THEY SAID THAT IS THE WAY IT IS. YOU WILL NEVER GET WHAT YOU SEE ON THE STICKER. SO WHEN YOU BUY A CAR NEVER TRUST WHAT THEY SAY ON THE STICKER PRICE.
BMW HAS IN MY OPINION DELIVERED CARS WITH A SAFETY RISK DUE TO DISTRACTED DRIVING RISK DUE TO THEIR POOR SOFTWARE. THE METHOD FOR CONNECTING TO AND OPERATING AN IPHONE (AND PERHAPS OTHER PHONES) VIA THE RADIO AND SPEAKERS IS CLUMSY AND DISTRACTING. FOR EXAMPLE, THE SOFTWARE DEMANDS SIX OR SEVEN INTERACTIONS WITH THE PHONE SCREEN AND CAR CONTROL ROTARY SELECTOR AND CAR SCREEN TO ACHIEVE TUNING AN AM STATION. (THERE IS NO AM BAND IN THE RADIO BECAUSE THE BRAKES ON THIS HYBRID WOULD AFFECT THE AM SIGNAL.) IN MY OPINION, BMW HAS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS DISTRACTING AND ANNOYING SOFTWARE AND IT SHOWS A CARELESS DISREGARD FOR ENSURING THE SAFEST DRIVING EXPERIENCE FOR ITS CUSTOMERS AND CLACK OF CONCERN FOR OTHER ROAD USERS. THE DANGERS OF DISTRACTED DRIVING ARE WELL KNOWN. I DROVE A RENTAL FORD ON THE WEEKEND - IT WORKED INTUITIVELY AND FLAWLESSLY VIA APPLE PLAY AND DID NOT CREATE ANY DISTRACTIONS. IN MY OPINION BMW SHOULD BE MADE TO RETRO-FIT THAT SOFTWARE TO THEIR AFFECTED PRODUCTS.

UPON FIRST SERVICE, BASED UPON WHIRRING NOISE IN FRONT OF CAR, SERVICE ADVISOR ADVISED THAT THE FRONT TIRES WERE BADLY CUPPED ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE EDGES AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A SECOND SERVICE ADVISOR ADVISED THAT THE BMW X5 WITH THE SPORTS PACKAGE NATURALLY CUPPED THE FRONT TIRES AND MOST PEOPLE CHOOSE TO REPLACE THE TIRES BEFORE 18000 MILES DUE TO NOISE. THIS IS AN 80,000+ DOLLAR CAR. DOES THAT SEEM NORMAL, OR ACCEPTABLE. BMW'S ONLY RESPONSE AFTER SEVERAL CONTACTS WAS TO HAVE A LADY FROM PUBLIC RELATIONS CALL ME AND TELL ME BMW WASN'T GOING TO PAY ANYTHING. I NEVER ASKED THEM TO PAY ANYTHING. IF THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE, IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. KNOWING THEY HAVE PRODUCED A CAR THAT WITH THE SPORTS PACKAGE EXCESSIVELY WEARS TIRES, EXPENSIVE TIRES, MEANS THEY SHOULD NOT PUT THE SPORTS PACKAGES ON THE X5, 50I. SINCE BMW REFUSES TO EVEN RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEMS, WHERE SHOULD I TURN? ONE DEALERSHIP HAS OFFERED TO SELL BE TWO FRONT TIRES FOR $700, BUT SHOULD I HAVE TO BUY THEM. WE'RE TALKING NEW TIRES EVERY 15-18000 MILES.
I STOPPED AT THE ENTRANCE OF AN APARTMENT COMPLEX AND WAS WAITING FOR THE SECURITY GATE TO OPEN. ONCE I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE AUTO START STOP FUNCTION TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WHILE STOPPED, WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY, THE ENGINE STARTED AND THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF STRIKING THE SECURITY GATE AS IT WAS OPENING. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED EITHER.

THE WARNING SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING, WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT. I CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH FOOTAGE, IN WHICH YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE EVENT OF ACCIDENT. ALSO, I CAN DEMONSTRATE, AS YOU CAN SEE ON FOOTAGE, THAT I MADE A FAIR ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THE ACCIDENT BY TRYING TO CLOSE SPONTANEOUSLY OPEN TAILGATE, WHICH RE-OPEN AGAIN SPONTANEOUSLY WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THE REAR TAILGATE GLASS EXPLODED IN A PIECES OF NEEDLE AND HALF A DIME SIZE AFTER POSSIBLE MINOR TOUCH OF THE REAR WIPER. IF THE MINOR IMPACT OF THE REAR WIPER TOOK PLACE, IT MUST NOT CAUSE SUCH DISPROPORTIONAL DAMAGES TO THE CAR SUCH AS EXPLOSION OF THE REAR TAILGATE WINDOW. THE PICTURE OF THE DEBRIS ALSO IS AVAILABLE. THE ARBELLA INSURANCE COMPANY DETERMINED THIS EVENT AS A SIMPLE CAR ACCIDENT, SINCE THE ARBELLA INSURANCE COMPANY DOES NOT AN EQUIPMENT TO DETERMINE IF LOCKS OR COMPUTER OF THE BMW X5 WERE MALFUNCTIONING. BMW USA WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE FOR THE SAME REASON, LACK OF EQUIPMENT, THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. NEITHER ONE ORGANIZATION THE ARBELLA INSURANCE NOR BMW USA HAD BEEN ADDRESSED THE SAFETY ISSUES DUE TO MALFUNCTIONED CAR COMPUTER NOR EXPLOSION OF THE TAILGATE REAR WINDOW.

SINCE WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE, IT HAS BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE AND NOW THAT WE HAVE A NEWBORN, IT HAS BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN OF OURS THAT THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF WHEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR OPENS. NOT ONLY CAN WE NOT PRE-CONDITION THE CAR WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO PUT HIM IN THE CAR SEAT, BUT ANYTIME WE GET OUT TO GRAB SOMETHING, IT LEAVES HIM WITH NO A/C AND IN WINTER THE HEAT WILL SHUT DOWN. I ALSO CANNOT SIT IN THE CAR WITH MY CHILD AND WAIT FOR MY HUSBAND TO COME OUTSIDE OR IF WE ARE AWAY FROM HOME AND HE HAS TO RUN IN SOMEWHERE, THE CAR SHUTS OFF AND WE ARE LEFT IN THE HEAT. WE LIVE IN FLORIDA AND IT IS DANGEROUSLY HOT WHEN A CAR IS NOT AIR-CONDITIONED. I LITERALLY HAVE TO CRAWL FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND EXIT ANOTHER DOOR, IF I WANT TO KEEP THE AIR ON, OR I HAVE TO CRAWL INTO THE DRIVER'S SEAT, IF I AM A PASSENGER. WE CAN'T EVEN TURN ON THE CAR TO COOL IT OFF BEFORE WE LEAVE THE HOUSE OR ANOTHER DESTINATION, BECAUSE THE CAR SHUTS OFF IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE MOST DANGEROUS THING, IS THAT IF YOU GET OUT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THE CAR REMAINS ON IN ALL OTHER ASPECTS (RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC.) AND APPEARS TO BE RUNNING. THIS MAY CONFUSE SOMEONE TO THINK THE CAR IS SAFE AND THE AC OR HEAT IS RUNNING. I BELIEVE THIS MAY CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH THIS OR EVEN A DEATH, IF ALL CUSTOMERS ARE NOT EDUCATED. THERE IS A PRE-CONDITION FEATURE THE CAR HAS, BUT IT ONLY WORKS IF IT IS CHARGED ENOUGH. ANYTIME WE ARE NOT AT HOME OR WITH ENOUGH BATTERY (WHICH IS OFTEN), WE DO NOT HAVE THIS OPTION AND IT IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND DANGEROUS. IN MY OPINION IT SHOULD BE A 'SAFETY RECALL', SO NO ONE IS HURT FROM EITHER EXTREME HEAT OR COLD CONDITIONS, WHEN THE CAR FAILS.
