FUEL SYSTEM, DIESELSeptember 9, 2025
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle made an abnormal ticking sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with high-pressure fuel pump failure, but the vehicle was not repaired at the time. The contact stated that upon pulling into a parking lot, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the high-pressure fuel pump had imploded, causing damage to the fuel system. The dealer related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V880000 (Fuel System, Diesel), and the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact later became aware that the dealer had replaced the high-pressure fuel pump with the same part. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic to be serviced, the mechanic informed the contact that the high-pressure fuel pump installed on the vehicle was not the recall part, but the same defective part. The mechanic recorded the high-pressure fuel pump and part number, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was confirmed that the recall part had not been installed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the dealer delayed performing the recall repair free of charge, which required the contact to pay for the replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump with the correct part. Codes: P2002, P242F, P2463, P1451 Failures: DPF, Charge air cooler leak, PM sensors, EGR internally cracked, Catalytic Convertor, Pink tinged oil, strong diesel odor in oil - post failures. Erratic def gauge readings, unstable idling, clunking downshift when exhaust brake decelerates, warm up stumbling. Power reduced, see dealer (over and over and over and over). Limp Mode (5 MPH). Permanent ticks/taps from front left motor, front passenger wheel well, passenger side mid-truck. Extremely loose gear shifter plus an occasional “Vehicle Not in Part” message on the dash display. Manufacturers Service Center (local and ONLY Ram dealership) has reproduced the issue. Independent Diesel Mechanic shop also reproduced. Service center and Independent shop both inspected. The safety issues of a 5 MPH limp mode and risk of sudden engine stalls while driving in traffic, especially on an interstate should be fairly self explanatory… As is a constant “Power Reduced See Dealer” problem, when your truck is used to do what it’s designed to do… Tow large loads. As is an extremely loose gear shifter that doesn’t always properly register as “in Park”. The date listed below is simply the date of the very first occurrence. It’s not a representation of every date after. The most recent date was just last week.

ENGINESeptember 10, 2024
Reoccurring messages regarding DEF, Exhaust Regeneration, and DPF, causing more and more frequent ReGen for longer and longer. Numerous trips to various Ram dealerships resulting in codes being cleared and then being told it was a software issue. After 2 years of this intermittently happening, we experienced an extended Regen that lasted hours and did not clear out the error code. Ram dealer in Utah charged $280 to do a stationary regeneration and once again clear out codes. Less than 6 months later with more and more Regens, a failed regen sent truck into Low Power Mode (losing the ability to tow or excelerate quickly). We ended up having to take it to a Ram dealer over 2 hours away in S. Atlanta to have them take it apart and tell us that the factory installed wiring harness rubbed a hole in the charged air cooler boot which was then causing failed regeneration of the diesel particulates causing the filter to fill. Dealer clearly stated that had any other dealer done a visual inspection of the physical components they would have seen this occurring. We filed a claim and opened a case with Ram for the $4500 repair and waited 8 days with no response to 9 phone calls. The same day we authorized the work, we receive the coveted return call to start the process, but once the customer service rep found out we had already authorized the work we were advised that case would be closed and we would have to open another case for reimbursement. So we started the whole process again, submitted all of the documentation and paid receipts and have been denied. All attempts to contact a supervisor or manager go nowhere and Ram customer service is rude and unhelpful and went as far as to tell us that our mistake was having the vehicle repaired (as if we are just going to let an $80k vehicle sit indefinitely in an unusable state).

TIRESMarch 28, 2024
I live in northern California near San Francisco, and we were traveling from Cottonwood, AZ back to our home. Back in June of 2023 we were traveling near Kingman, AZ and had the front passenger tire explode, almost losing control of the truck and trailer. We were at 19524 miles on the truck. At the time I thought that maybe I had hit something. But two months later I took the trailer to Carson City, NV for work and just before I got into Reno the truck started to shake from side to side in the front and the next day I took it to a tire shop and they told me that the driver’s front tire was getting ready to come apart and I had only put about 800 miles on the truck since the first tire had exploded. This was when I realized the issue was the tires. I immediately had all 6 tires replaced. You can find a lot of bad comments about these tires on-line with comments like what happened to me. EXAMPLE [XXX] In response to your questions 1.I don’t have the tires that died just pictures. 2.After the blowout steering was difficult. 3.No Dealer confirmation. 4.No inspections. 5.Before the first tire exploded for about 20 miles I noticed a vibration in the front end. But just thought it was just the road. Tire Size - LT235/80R17 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle will not go into park and shut off. I could not turn the engine off. Not having the ability to turn the motor off is a safety concern. This has progressed to where it says vehicle is not in park while vehicle is in drive and moving. The problem is intermittent and I have documented it with multiple pictures and videos and witness accounts but the dealer has not been able to reproduce the malfunction. The service representative has been helpful but has not been able to. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police or other independent representatives. The vehicle does not have any codes associated with it. This same exact series of malfuctions occurred on my 2016 Ram 2500 and the valve pack on the transmission failed and the vehicle would not move and eventually the transmission failed. Then the emission software would not extinguish the check engine light even though there were no issues. The dealer reinstalled the software and after less than 25 miles the same issue happened. I traded in the vehicle because Ram would not honor the warranty and I could not pass smog with a check engine light on and nothing wrong with the sensors or the output. Now I am having problems with the 3500 progressively going in the exact same way as the 2500. I have had to take it to the dealer 6 or 7 times in as many months and less than 10,000 miles.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEMDecember 8, 2023
Check engine light turned on in my 2020 dodge ram 3500, I took the truck back to the dealership. According to them the Grid Heater Relay needs to be replaced & the truck could have caught on fire if we would have kept driving like that. I have done some research and saw that there has been a recall on that same part for the 2021-2023. Could it be possible the 2020 were defective also, this is a major safety concern and should be looked into. I also don’t believe the customer should be responsible for paying for this issue to be fixed when it was my family’s safety that was jeopardized.

On 12/4/23, at 6:37 am PST, we initiated remote start via the key fob. At 6:40 am pst, a flash and fire erupted from under the hood of the truck. We immediately worked to control the fire using extinguishers and garden hoses until the fire department arrived a few minutes later. They worked to put the fire out that engulfed the engine compartment and then worked to get the hood open to finish putting the fire out. The fire didn’t fully go out until the battery cables were cut.

While driving at 70 mph on I-75 July 1 2023, roads where dry, temp outside was 88 degrees, speed control set, my 2020 Ram 3500 diesel, 4X4 Mega cab pick-up began to shake violently, the steering wheel was trembling side to side ! I took the truck off cruise control and griped the steering wheel, traffic was heavy that day so it took about 1/4 mile to slow down and pull safely to the shoulder with the hazard lights on and the truck in park I got out and started looking at what was going on in the front of the truck! I didn't take long before I spotted a large egg shaped raised bump on the drivers side front tire! It was checked for air pressure before my trip and registered 80 PSI with a air gauge! I checked the passenger side tire and it was normal, ( No egg shape). I had the local tire shop remove the spare and swap it with the Drivers side lumpy tire. I had not even traveled 10 miles from the tire store when the steering wheel started to shake violently again, this time I took it right back to the tire store and thought that it might not have been balanced or threw a weight maybe, as the manager/ owner and I inspected the tire the drivers side was fine, we walked to the passenger side and we both saw a Hugh outward protruding bump on the center top of the tire running at an angle from front to back! He told me that it must be delaminating, that he couldn't be sure until he demounted it. I was out of spares, out of town and out of luck. I paid the man to mount 2 new Firestones and I would take it up with my dealer when they Opened on the following Monday! As I proceeded to Thayer Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep in Bowling Green Ohio, I felt the back of the passenger side of the truck begin to hop, the slower I drove the worse it became. Pulled into the dealer lot and left it running in park to cool the turbo down as I talked to the service manager, service manager asked to see the tires that where taken off, she saw the bubbles on the insides of both, told me to call NEXEM

While driving Down a paved roadway on 6/30/23 @ 5pm doing approximately 20 miles per hour the vehicle died and the dash lite up with every single message possible such as 4WD inactive, oil change due, fuel filter service required and etc. Attempted to restart the vehicle for about 25 minutes when another citizen noticed we were having issues with the vehicle so they stopped to assist us. The citizen towed my vehicle to location we were staying at for the weekend and upon arrival to the location I disconnected both battery terminals to allow the computer modules to drain/reset. After allowing the batteries to be disconnected for several hours I hooked them back up and tried starting the vehicle and was unsuccessful getting it to restart. I disconnected the batteries again for the night and returned the next morning to hook them up. after hooking the batteries back up, I was able to get the vehicle started and moved it around at the place we were staying at and allowed it remain running for about 20 minutes before I shut it off. Went and did other projects and about 5 hours later returned to the pickup to see to see if it would start since we were heading back the next morning and it started so I figured it would get us home on Sunday July 2nd. On July 2nd @ 11:30am started the pickup to leave and everything seemed normal. We drove about 5miles from the location we were staying at and were approaching an intersecting highway OR58. I proceeded out onto OR58 westbound and as we got about 1 mile down the road when the pickup died and every message was being displayed again. As we sat way off the shoulder of OR58 incident response pulled up behind us to make sure everything was ok. I told the incident responder that we were good and I was working on contacting RAM for a tow. About 15 minutes had passed and IR person walked away then the pickup started. I was able to drive the pickup about 2 more miles down the road when it died again and had to be towed.

My check engine light went on, along with the DEF warning, early June 13th,2023. The DEF warning stated I had 150 miles to get the Track to a Dealer. After Dealer evaluation, I was told the truck had DEF contamination, from ,Diesel Fuel. I asked how this could happen? I was not given an explanation. To me this is a DEF Pump failure. The DEF Pump did not have enough PSI to inject DEF into the Diesel Fuel, so the Diesel Fuel back flowed into the DEF system. Additional facts, my Truck warranty expired 5/15/2023. My truck has less than 36,000 miles. I had the High Pressure Fuel pump, Recalled fixed in May 2023. I was told this repair did not lead to this issue. The Repair bill is over $3700 for this repair.

My high pressure fuel pump went out while I was towing the 43 ft enclosed trailer causing the engine to shut down. I was able to get it home and onto a car hauling trailer took it to a dealership and confirmed the high pressure fuel pump was the culprit they informed me that they would not perform the safety recall because of a modification to the vehicle which has no bearing on the safety issues at hand I contacted FCA they encouraged me to take it to a different dealership which I did. I had to pay a tow truck to haul it to another dealership in which they told me they would do the recall however when they put my VIN number in their system my pickup had been blacklisted by the parent company Chrysler saying do not work on this vehicle for safety recalls. I at this point got quotes to have it done and it was extremely expensive to friend advised me to look into the law so I contacted a lawyer and they told me to file a complaint with NHTSA.

We where driving down the highway and the drive shaft fell out the car. This took out my brake lines and my transmission harness. This caused major damage to my car and it almost killed my drivers because they were unable to stop with no brakes they had to go into a ditch to avoid hitting someone. I have spoken with some other owners and they had some of the same issues. My truck was taken care of and just left the shop the previous week. We did not hit anything it just appears that some of th bolts came apart. This is a flaw in th design because the truck should not fall apart going down the highway.

Y78 Recall. The recall for the CP4 pump has been issued. Ive been on the dealership waitlist since the recall became available. My truck began to have rough idling and surging which it never had before. I called the dealer to ask a timeframe for when the recall would be completed, they advised me that they were no longer receiving pumps for the recall and had not received any in a few months. The lady in service advised me if I was that concerned for pump failure to try and source a pump conversion kit myself and submit for reimbursement afterwards (which I did). I submitted copies of receipts from both the retailer I ordered from as well as credit card statements showing proof of purchase which FCA required per their email. However, FCA has denied my request for reimbursement of parts. I have been in communication with them via email trying to get a explanation of why I was denied. They stated that I do not meet criteria for reimbursement even though I have submitted all required documents that they ask for. They are unable to provide explanation aside from their automated generic response saying I do not meet criteria. I have tried calling their provided customer care number to speak to a representative but have been unable to talk to anyone other than an automated system.

TIRESOctober 28, 2022
Two local tire shops say the sidewalls are unsafe and the vehicle should not be driven. However, Firestone verbally reassures me it is solely a cosmetic issue. They have refused to put anything in writing. Details below: Transforce ATs 275/70R18 were the "upgraded snowplow package" OEM tires for my RAM. I've never used them as such; it has solely been a highway vehicle. However, these tires have worn very irregularly, despite 3 times to the dealer and FIRESTONE shops to confirm the factory alignment is and has always been perfect. Tires always properly inflated. Frequent rotations, usually at 5K, but once at 7k miles. The sidewalls have a visible "cut" or seam all the way around the circumference of the tires. One tire the outer layer has peeled back, revealing the white material all the way around the tire. Looks like crap. This is a highway truck - it is NOT caused by hitting a curb, or by using "tire shine" like the Firestone representative suggested. My OEM tires are mismatched, two date codes 0620, one 0720, and one illegible. I recognize there was a recall on certain dates for this exact tire due to poor wear and buggered compounds. But Firestone says these don't qualify for replacement. Because the tires with the date code 0620 have BOTH sidewall delamination AND poor wear immediately above the whitewalls, I think that is pertinent. The tire with the 0720 date code is performing much better. But Firestone doesn't care. Local tire shops say they are unsafe to drive, but the nearest Firestone dealer (100 miles away) says it is just a cosmetic issue; that sidewalls peeling like shown below is common with Firestone "mold defects". Firestone Warranty says to take it to a Firestone store. The Firestone store says they don't do anything for OEM tires, and I should instead call Corporate Firestone Customer Service. Customer Service says to contact Warranty. They are driving me crazy. I want safe tires that I am confident won't blowout.

These are dangers to everyone on the road. drove fine all day then suddenley started shaking the whole truck. I thought a wheel wait fell off but the tire was obviously deformed..

I am attempting to get recall 21V-880 done. This is a safety recall where failure of the engine could result in a crash. I contacted my local dealer and they state repair parts are only available in limited quantities. They put me on a waiting list and stated there are 105 vehicles ahead of me and they don’t think they will have the parts to repair the safety recall until late 2023. This is completely unacceptable for a major safety recall.

All connections checked before departure. Unlike the other Ram in the caravan, No ABS warning light activated prior to the failure. When braking, no trailer brakes engaged. Then checked hand paddles on the factory trailer brake module and the hand paddles activated the trailer brakes. Took it into the dealership to check codes and they said none appeared or were somehow reset. There was excessive heat during this trip and the failure occurred in both RAM 3500 vehicles during the same travel segment within minutes of the other.

We were pulling our travel trailer which is 40.6 feet in length. We had no warning and had a hard time finding a place to pull over. The dash light then flashed “ exhaust system service required see dealer”. Our truck only has 11000 miles and is well taken care of. As a result , we had to wait for over 2 hours in the Texas heat (91 degrees) on the side of a dangerous highway. Nothing would work in the truck. It took this long for the warranty service to approve the tow. They did not provide any information for rental car or lodging. This Laramie trim level truck has an electronic drop tailgate with a button to drop the tailgate on the overhead console and one on the key fob. The tailgate on my truck was closed during my pre-trip and entering the vehicle. I had a trailer hooked to the receiver hitch and drove ten miles before realizing the tailgate was now in the down position and caused significant damage to the tailgate because the tailgate made contact with the trailer. With the electronic release tailgate on this particular year truck there is not a warning message alerting the driver that the tailgate is ajar. There is such an alert on newer models (2021-2022) I went to a local dealership to check. I’m sure the tailgate drop button somehow was pressed on the key fob while in my pocket entering the truck. But I did not receive any alert on the instrument cluster or even hear the tailgate open because the tailgate has a soft open feature. I see this being a serious safety concern to possibly lose cargo and cause a more serious accident.

I was driving my truck towing a fifth wheel trailer weighing over 10,000 pounds on a rural state highway in Missouri with many hills, curves, and little to no shoulders. As I was traveling on a downhill slope at approximately 60mph my engine abruptly died with no warning, causing an immediate loss of power steering, power brakes, and engine brake. I began applying heavy pressure to the brakes slowing the vehicle and began looking for a side road to pull into. I came upon a driveway with an open gate into a field. With much manual force to the steering wheel and brakes I was able to guide the truck and trailer off of the highway into the field to a stop. I was fortunate to not have anyone stopping in front of me as I am certain I would not have been able to avoid a crash with the heavy load and no power. The vehicle was towed to a local Ram dealer and metal shavings were discovered in my fuel system. Repairs were made under warranty and after 6 weeks my truck was returned to me with a new fuel system including a new Cp4 fuel pump that had failed. This happened on 08/28/2020 and the truck had 8900 miles at the time. On 09/15/2021 I discovered metal shavings in my rear fuel filter while doing routine maintenance The truck was running appropriately with no codes or warning lights, it had 72000 miles at the time. I telephoned a local Ram dealer shop and was told it would have to be diagnosed at their shop. Unwilling to take the chance with another Cp4 pump failing I contacted a local diesel shop and was advised to replace the Cp4 with a Cp3 pump. I purchased a new Bosch Cp3 fuel pump specifically modified for replacement of Cp4 pumps in Ram trucks and paid the local shop myself to do the work. I still have my second Cp4 pump in my possession.

When I tried to resume speed the truck seemed "stuck" at 45mph for quite some time. I gave it full throttle and it didn't accelerate. I tapped the brakes, turned off cruise control and it felt like there was no power at all, like it was freewheeling. Finally the motor 'caught' and it accelerated to highway speed. I looked for the problem online and believe this may be related to the CP4 fuel pump issues. Is it safe to continue driving or should I take the truck to a dealer or what? With 20k miles the High-Pressure Fuel Pump blowup in middle of the freeway in NY. This part name is CP4. My truck subtlety stops in freeway in very dangerous situation. My luck is I had a State Patrol few cars back and he help me to safety the area and wait the tow. My truck stays 2 months parked on at Dealer to fix. The reason is they don’t have a new CP4 to replace is because all 2020 diesel Ram trucks had the same problem. 5 months later my CP4 blowup again with 49k miles now my CP4 and my Tank Fuel Pump breakdown in same time. More 2 months to fix.by the way my truck don’t had 9 months old and stay parked on dealer for 4 months. I paid 4 months of car payments and insurance for not use the truck. Other point is my braking pads. I replaced my front braking pads and rotors with 29k miles. This is unbelievable all my trucks I replaced this part between 70k and 90k. I paid $900 and I believe that my truck had something wrong with braking system also. Like I explained before. In both situations my CP4 subtlety blowups and stop my truck in middle of freeway. My truck like all 2019-2020 trucks have the plagued CP4 pump that could fail without showing any symptoms. FCA has failed to step up and have ownership and integrity on this issue. I have asked multiple times to RAM Cares and all I have received is cookie cutter answers from them. I do not know if mine will be next to go or ever will go but FCA has a solution in the 2021 HD Ram trucks and that is the CP-ISB21 fuel pump which looks like the old reliable CP3 fuel pump. Companies out have a solution and that is the CP3 swap but it voids the warranty on the vehicle. The warranty is what is holding me back from having the CP3 pump swap done. Can you please pressure FCA to step up have integrity to replace the plagued CP4 fuel pump with the CP-ISB21 pump. I have challenged FCA on their integrity and ask them if they have it because of the cookie cutter answers I have received from them. I have even asked them to look up what integrity is and to follow the integrity example from the Naval Nuclear Power Program because that program is built on integrity. That program has safely steamed on Nuclear Power for over 60 years. Please again force FCA’s hand on this because this is unsat of them. Look at the forums online and you will see people posting their trucks that have a failed CP4 pump. With that failure FCA is just replacing it another CP4 pump. Also people’s HD rams are down for weeks up to months waiting on the repair. I have also talked to dealership service managers about this issue and they are stumped on why FCA has not issued a recall. Thank you.

WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2020 RAM 3500 DIESEL WITH A 2000-POUND TRUCK CAMPER IN THE BED ON A CITY STREET ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN THROUGH A YIELD SIGN WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED COMPLETELY WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO RESTART IT. THIS RESULTED IN SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING, AND POWER BREAKS, LEADING TO A NEAR COLLISION WITH A LARGE POLE AND POSSIBLY OTHER VEHICLES IN THE IN THE INTERSECTION. ALTHOUGH WE MISSED THE POLE AND OTHER VEHICLES, IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO AVOID DUE TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. HAD OUR SPEED BEEN SLIGHTLY HIGHER, A COLLISION WOULD HAVE BEEN UNAVOIDABLE. AFTER HAVING OUR TRUCK INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE BREAKDOWN WAS THE BOSCH CP4.2 INJECTION PUMP CATASTROPHICALLY FAILING (OR "GRENADE-ING" OR "IMPLODING" AS THE DEALERSHIP PUT IT) RESULTING IN THE COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, STOPPING ALL FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE. AFTER THIS HAPPENED TO US, WE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE BOSCH CP4.2 INJECTION PUMP HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE INCOMPATIBLE WITH DIESEL FUEL FOUND IN THE USA DUE TO LACK OF LUBRICITY, AND HAS OTHER FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN DEFECTS THAT TOGETHER MAKE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE ALMOST INEVITABLE IN VEHICLES DRIVEN IN THE USA. MOST PREVIOUS RAM 3500'S USED A RELIABLE BOSCH CP3 INJECTION PUMP, BUT STARTING IN 2019 MODEL YEARS SWITCHED TO THE LESS EXPENSIVE CP4.2 EVEN THOUGH THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO RAM AND CUMMINS DUE TO THE COUNTLESS INCIDENTS OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN OTHER VEHICLES USING THE SAME PUMP FOR MANY YEARS. HAD WE KNOWN THIS PRIOR TO PURCHASING OUR TRUCK, WE WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. WE WERE SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED TO FIND OUT THAT VEHICLES USING THIS DANGEROUS INJECTION PUMP HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED.

I AM ONE OF THE MANY 19-20 HD RAM OWNERS OUT THERE THAT HAVE THE PLAGUED BOSCH CP4 FUEL PUMP. IT IS ESSENTIALLY A TIME BOMB WAITING FOR OFF BECAUSE WHEN IT GOES IT SEND METAL THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM MAKING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. THAT IS BAD ESPECIALLY THOSE OF US THAT TOW HEAVY. I HAVE ASKED RAM MULTIPLE TIMES ON WHEN THEY PLAN TO HELP US 19-20 OWNERS OUT AND I KEEP GETTING A COOKIE CUTTER ANSWER FROM THEM THAT NOTHING IS IN THE WORKS EVEN THOUGH THE 2021 MODEL HD RAMS HAVE THE RELIABLE CP3 FUEL PUMP AND IT IS A DIRECT SWAP OUT. LUCKILY NOTHING HAS YET HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE BUT I WORRY WHEN I DRIVE TOWING OUR HOME AROUND, FULL TIME LIVING IN AN RV, THAT THE FUEL PUMP WILL GRENADE ITSELF. WHEN THAT FUEL PUMP GOES ABOUT HALF OF THE TIME THE DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT HONORING THE WARRANTY CLAIM BECAUSE THEY BLAME IT ON BAD FUEL BUT HOW CAN WE CONTROL IF THE FUEL WE GET IS BAD OR GOOD, SPECIFICALLY WATER IN FUEL. OWNERS ARE BEING STABBED WITH A 10K TO 20K REPAIR BILL TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. PLEASE FORCE RAM TO ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE THE CP4 PUMP WITH THE CP3 PUMP SO THAT WE DO NOT DRIVE AROUND WITH A PLAGUED FUEL PUMP ANYMORE. TELL THEM TO DO THEIR JOB BECAUSE YOU EXPECT ME TO DO MINE. I AM NUCLEAR PROPULSION PLANT OPERATOR/SUPERVISOR FOR 20 PLUS YEARS IN THE NAVY AND WE SCRUTINIZE EVERYTHING TO ENSURE SAFE AND RELIABLE OPERATION OF NUCLEAR PROPULSION PLANTS.

I BOUGHT MY TRUCK JUST OVER A MONTH AGO AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO ADD LUBRICANT TO MY FUEL IN ORDER TO KEEP MY FUEL PUMP FROM BLOWING UP, AS WELL AS ONLY PUT IN 'GOOD DIESEL.' I KNOW DIESEL CAN CHANGE FROM ONE GAS STATION TO ANOTHER, BUT TO ADD A LUBRICANT IN ORDER TO KEEP MY FUEL PUMP FROM BLOWING UP ON AND BRAND NEW $80000 TRUCK! ALL BECAUSE OF THE CP4 THAT RAM DECIDED TO USE FOR TWO YEARS, THEN WENT BACK TO THE CP3 IN 2021. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAVING THEIR PUMPS BLOW UP IN THE FIRST 10000 MILES, BEING LEFT STRANDED FOR MONTHS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO REDO THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AT A PRICE TAG OF $17000. I HAVE HAD SURGING ISSUES THAT ARE MAKING ME NERVOUS TO THE POINT THAT I'M WILLING TO TAKE A $10000 LOSS ON MY TRUCK AND TRADE IT IN FOR A DIFFERENT ONE. I DON'T WANT TO BE LEFT STRANDED ON THE WAY TO WORK ONE DAY BECAUSE FCA DOESN'T WANT TO RECOGNIZE THEY PUT IN A DEFECTIVE PART THAT IS CAUSE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND LEAVING US CONSUMER OUT OF A VEHICLE FOR MONTHS. THIS HAS TO CHANGE!

THE 2019 TO 2020 MODEL YEAR RAM 2500 HEAVY DUTY EQUIPPED WITH A 6.7L CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE HAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE A STALL AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE BOSCH CP4.2 FUEL INJECTION PUMP HAS A VERY HIGH RATE OF SUDDEN FAILURE LEADING TO IMMEDIATE STOPPAGE ON THE ENGINE AND ENGINE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE PUMP DESTROYS ITSELF AND TAKES OUT THE REST OF THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM LEADING TO REPAIRS IN THE $20,000 USD RANGE. FCA & RAM HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REVISE THE PUMP IN LATE (JULY) 2020 TO SOLVE THE ISSUE BUT THE FAILURES KEEP OCCURRING. FOR THE 2021 MODEL YEAR, FCA & RAM HAVE CHANGED THE PUMP ENTIRELY AND REVERTED BACK TO USING AN OLDER, SAFER, MORE RELIABLE DESIGN. NO PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS OF NEITHER THE PUMP REVISION IN 2020, NOR THE PUMP CHANGE IN 2021 HAVE BEEN MADE. THE ISSUE IS SO PREVALENT THAT THE REPLACEMENT PUMPS AND REPAIRS GENERALLY HAVE A 30-90 DAY WAIT PERIOD WHERE THE CUSTOMER IS WITHOUT THE PRIMARY VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM IS A SUBSTANTIATED SAFETY RISK. ACCORDING TO A TEXAS JUDGE IN A BOSCH CP4.2 LAWSUIT, WHEN ANOTHER AUTOMAKER, GM TRIED TO DISMISS THE CASE SAYING THE PUMP FAILURE IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, THE COURT RESPONDED: "THE WORST CASE SCENARIO OF A TRUCK SPONTANEOUSLY STALLING AT HIGH SPEEDS IS NOT A MERE INCONVENIENCE. NOR IS IT A MERE INCONVENIENCE TO SPEND BETWEEN $8,000 TO $20,000 ON REPAIRS TO MAKE THE TRUCKS FIT FOR THEIR ORDINARY PURPOSE. THE COURT REJECTS GM'S SUGGESTION THAT THE RISK OF SPONTANEOUS ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING IS NOT, AS A MATTER OF LAW, UNREASONABLY DANGEROUS, DEPRIVING THE VEHICLES OF FITNESS FOR THEIR PURPOSE OF TRANSPORTATION.". TOYOTA AGREES: "IF A VEHICLE STALL OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS, THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH". FCA & RAM HAVE REMEDIED THE SITUATION FOR THE 2021 MODEL YEAR HOWEVER, THE 2019 AND 2020 OWNERS ARE STILL AT RISK. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO FORCE FCA TO RECALL THESE TRUCKS.

THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVING EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE FAIRLY NEW CP4 FUEL PUMP. WHEN THIS GOES, IT TAKES OUT THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM RESULTING IN $17,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. WHAT'S WORSE IS THAT YOUR STRANDED ,WITH OUT A VEHICLE. DEALERSHIPS ARE ONLY DOING A LIMITED AMOUNT OF LOANERS BUT NOT A VEHICLE EQUAL TO WHAT YOU HAD. SOME HAVE WAITED FOR MONTHS AND FCA DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE DOING ANYTHING TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES. SOME OF US TRAVEL HUNDREDS OF MILES AT A TIME WITH AN RV IN TOW THAT IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT. QUITE OFTEN WHEN YOU TRAVEL, THERE IS NOTHING AROUND OR PLACE TO COAST TO, OR EVEN IN THE MOST BEST AREAS. THE CP3 WAS PROVEN EQUIPMENT THAT WORKED WELL AND WHILE I UNDERSTAND AND ENCOURAGE THE ADVANCEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY, YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM WHEN YOU HAVE ONE, ESPECIALLY WHAT COULD RESULT IN A SAFETY ISSUE. THESE CP4 FUEL PUMPS NEED TO BE RECALLED UNTILL FURTHER RESEARCH IS DONE TO CORRECT THE ONGOING HIGHLY EXPENSIVE ISSUE THAT IS PUTTING ALL 2019 & 2020 VEHICLES WITH THIS PUMP AT A SAFETY RISK WITHIN A RAPID RATE OF ONLY UNDER 10,000 MILES AND OR LESS. IGNORING THE PROBLEM AND DOING NOTHING IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND NEGLIGIBLE. THE ANXIETY THAT THIS IS CAUSING MY FAMILY LET ALONE ALL THE OTHERS, IS VERY MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY TAXING ON ONE'S LIFE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AND HELP ALL OF US INVOLVED GET A LITTLE PIECE OF MIND AND A MORE RELIABLE PRODUCT THAN THE CP4, THAT IS ALMOST GUARANTEED TO FAIL WITHIN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.
