Recently, my sun roof shade has started to sag and no longer retracts correctly. This is causing a loss of visibility out of the rear and side windows. It also is causing a distraction as it has lost it's tension. Additionally I have contacted two separate Ford dealerships, only for them to tell me that I have to bring the vehicle in and pay hundreds of dollars to "diagnose" that the shade is broken and that my extended warranty will not cover this cost even though it is a danger for me to drive my vehicle in this condition.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Explorer. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked abnormally. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that unknown parts had failed, the battery was low, and an unknown part on the transmission had failed. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The failure persisted, and the vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. The vehicle was no longer driven due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
SEATSMarch 12, 2026
After multiple attempts to fold the third-row power seat in my 2022 Ford Explorer, the seat mechanism failed completely. The seat will no longer lock securely in either the upright or folded position. The seat frame appears to have failed and the seat constantly springs back and will not stay in place. The seat was being operated normally using the factory power folding function when the failure occurred. There was no unusual load or misuse of the seat prior to the failure. The issue was inspected and diagnosed by a Ford dealership, which confirmed that the third-row seat frame had failed and would require replacement of the seat frame assembly. The dealership quoted approximately 3,622 to repair the issue. Because the seat will not lock securely in the upright or folded position, this may present a safety concern for passengers using the third-row seating area. No warning lights or messages were displayed prior to the failure.

The panoramic sunroof sunshade in my 2022 Ford Explorer failed and now sags downward. The shade hangs low enough to partially block the rear window and interferes with visibility through the rearview mirror. After researching the issue, I found many other owners reporting the same failure with the sunroof sunshade mechanism or clips. This appears to be a common defect. The reduced rear visibility while driving creates a safety hazard when checking traffic behind the vehicle.
EXTERIOR LIGHTINGMarch 6, 2026
Head lamp warning alerted (refers driver to drivers manual, only to say see a dealer) but no issues, both lamps were working. Took vehicle to Ford service center and they could not find a problem, we figured this could be an electronic issue with the warning, but Head lamp warning became more frequent again no issues. Then while driving in the dark with headlights on the automatic function, head lamps would cycle rapidly between bright and normal when approaching another vehicle…Even turning them to manual it continued to cycle Researched the issue and apparently it’s a known issue with Ford. The Automatic headlamp module can get wet and short out… this is a 1200.00 repair… the headlamp is now out, and even if not on the automatic feature it still blinks when approaching oncoming traffic… These lights are bright an when approaching on coming traffic with bright lights flashing in your eyes that becomes a safety issue… Yes, it is going in for repair however if it’s a known issue with Ford shouldn't it be a recall?

Both catalytic converters have failed, with one have a catastrophic failure, resulting in pipe becoming disconnect from the exhaust system and dropped to pavement while vehicle was traveling at interstate speed. Pipe was facing forward when it dropped. Posed severe risk to myself and other vehicles. Disabled vehicle was towed to Ford dealership where it was confirmed both converters were cracked, with the one having broken apart. Noise and vibration condition was noted and started over a year prior, however, dealer was unable to diagnose it until the full failure made the source apparent.

My front passenger get side lighting component started blinking about 6 months ago. Now it’s completely out. I went to get a new bulb and they told me I need to buy the entire lighting unit it’s $2800 at the dealership. I joined a Ford group on Facebook and hundreds of people are having the same issue. Some models newer than mine, but most from 2020 - 205 models. I reached out to Ford they won’t cover the issue.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMFebruary 15, 2026
Component/System: Low-pressure fuel pump/fuel delivery system related to Recall 25S75. Vehicle is a 2022 Ford Explorer Hybrid. Description: My vehicle is subject to Recall 25S75 involving the low-pressure fuel pump that can cause loss of fuel pressure and engine stalling. The vehicle has stalled six times between about 15,000 and 35,000 miles. The issue is intermittent but ongoing. The vehicle is available for inspection. What failed or malfunctioned: The fuel delivery system appears to lose pressure consistent with Recall 25S75, leading to engine stalling and temporary inability to restart. Safety risk: One stall occurred while driving on a highway on 9/30/23 at about 15,000 miles. The engine lost power without warning and I had to coast to a gas station. Sudden loss of propulsion in traffic creates a serious crash risk. Other stalls happened in driveways or parking lots after the vehicle had been running. In several cases the vehicle would not restart for 20–60 minutes, which could be dangerous if it occurred in traffic or an unsafe location. Reproduction or dealer confirmation: Two incidents required towing to Ford dealerships. The vehicle has been taken to Ford dealers multiple times. Earlier incidents were not linked to a recall at the time. Now that Recall 25S75 has been issued, the symptoms match. Ford has not repaired it because the remedy is still under development and parts are unavailable. Inspections: The vehicle has been inspected by Ford dealerships and towed twice by AAA for diagnosis. No permanent fix has been made because the recall remedy is not yet available. Warnings or symptoms: Stalls often occurred after the vehicle had been running. The vehicle then would not restart for 20–60 minutes. In one event there were dashboard errors. There was not always a clear warning before a stall. Reason for complaint: The recall has been open since July 2025 with no remedy available. The vehicle continues to stall. I do not feel it is safe to operate.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERFebruary 6, 2026
The panoramic shade on my 2022 Ford Explorer failed causing an inability to see clearly. The dealership did replace the faulty motors on both sides free of charge. Afterwards when attempting to close the sunroof after opening, it wouldn't close. We had to force it shut due to rainy weather. After taking to the dealership for possible repair/replacement we've been told that both motors need to be replaced and the track is broken and needs to be replaced. Cost of 3500.00 to 3900.00. I have rarely used the sunroof because I'm afraid it won't work. Now I'm stuck with a huge repair on faulty Ford equipment that has been rarely used and can't be worn out unless you installed used equipment in the first place. Shame on Ford!

The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
POWER TRAINFebruary 3, 2026
My 2022 Ford Explorer had Recall 23S55 performed on June 21, 2025 to address rear axle/differential fastener fracture. Despite the recall repair, the rear subframe-to-differential cover bolt sheared off while driving, causing the differential to drop and the driveshaft to be pulled from the differential. Grease leaked and the driveshaft was gouged against the subframe. This is the same failure mode the recall was intended to prevent and occurred after the recall was certified as complete. This failure happened while I was driving with my daughter and could have resulted in loss of control if it occurred at highway speed. Ford has only offered partial cost coverage instead of treating this as a failed recall remedy. I am concerned this represents an ineffective recall repair and an ongoing safety risk.

While traveling on I-26 east near North Carolina MM 51 in the left lane, the vehicle suddenly pulled uncontrollably to the left resulting in a sideswipe of the guardrail. The vehicle then swerved to the right stopping near the center of the interstate. My wife was able to move the vehicle to the right shoulder under its own power. The right front tire/wheel was laying almost flat attached to the vehicle only by the brake line. The entire wheel assembly was detached from the steering/suspension system. The vehicle was towed to a local collision center and inspected by my insurance adjuster. The vehicle was determined a total loss. There were no injuries or other vehicles involved. The NC Highway Patrol responded but did not complete an accident report.

The fuel level indication on my 2022 Ford Explorer behaves erratically and inaccurately. The issue occurs regardless of whether the vehicle is parked uphill, or downhill, just any time I’m on an incline, and it happens even when the fuel tank is full. The fuel gauge and/or “miles to empty” reading changes unexpectedly and does not reliably reflect the actual amount of fuel in the tank. This behavior is not limited to low fuel conditions. The problem appears consistently raising concerns about inaccurate fuel level reporting and potential fuel system malfunction. The vehicle has not displayed warning lights, and the issue is resolved by refueling, but changing parking orientation does not reset or cause the fuel gauge to show accurate reading. I have had one instance of needing to call roadside assistance as it falsely read I was out of fuel.

I own a 2022 Ford Explorer purchased in April 2025. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced multiple defects affecting safety and normal use. The instrument cluster becomes foggy, making it difficult to clearly see my speed while driving. The infotainment screen intermittently malfunctions and affects the backup camera display, reducing rear visibility. I also experienced fuel contamination that was confirmed and repaired by the dealership. In addition, the rear HVAC air vents close and do not provide airflow to the back seats. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership four separate times for different issues. Despite these repair attempts, the problems have continued or new issues have appeared. Due to the ongoing defects and safety concerns, I do not feel safe or confident operating this vehicle.

Ford Explorer Recall – Ongoing Safety Hazard In July 2025, Ford issued a recall notice for my vehicle. Shortly after, the check engine light came on. Starting October 15, 2025, my vehicle began failing to start after refueling—making noise and taking multiple attempts to start. The same issue occurred repeatedly on October 23 and October 30, worsening each time. On November 3, we brought the car to a Ford dealership. They confirmed there is no available fix for the recall and said there’s “nothing they can do.” I explained this was a safety issue since I drive my son with a disability to therapy daily. They told me I would have to pay out of pocket for repairs even though the problem is linked to the recall. On November 8, while driving in Arizona, my vehicle again failed to start after refueling. Later that day, it lost power on the road, the speed dropped suddenly, and it would not accelerate. The same stalling and jerking occurred again on November 10 while my husband was driving. We contacted Ford Corporate and NHTSA, but both said nothing could be done because the recall label says the car is “still drivable.” This is inaccurate and dangerous. The car stalls and loses acceleration randomly, creating a serious risk of an accident. On November 21, the car again failed to start after refueling. This has happened multiple times each week, and Ford continues to delay a fix. My vehicle is unsafe to drive, and this unresolved recall poses an ongoing safety hazard to my family and others on the road.

We purchased our 2022 Ford Explorer brand new on April 12, 2022. The backup camera was nonfunctional that same evening. We brought the car to Porter Ford, where the issue was confirmed via diagnostic code U0264:00 ("Lost Communication With Camera Module Rear"). The dealership informed us that this was tied to a known recall, but that the necessary parts were unavailable. We waited more than two years for a resolution, during which time the camera system remained inoperable or intermittently failed. This defect directly impacts rear visibility, which is required under FMVSS 111. In August 2024, Willis Ford performed Recall 23S23, replacing the rear camera and wiring harness. The issue continued. In May 2024, they opened Recall 23S232, again noting a need for parts. In September 2024, the camera was replaced again. The issue persisted. In June 2025, the issue was finally diagnosed as a failed IPMB module and possibly a harness fault. Ford has since quoted us $2,937.90 to repair the issue—despite written confirmation from the service advisor to Ford that: "If the vehicle was still under warranty, this repair would be covered." We have not paid anything, and are refusing partial coverage, as the defect was: Reported within 24 hours of vehicle delivery Tied to multiple recalls Never resolved after years of authorized service center attempts This is a clear and ongoing safety defect affecting rear visibility. Ford has failed to comply with safety standards by not resolving the issue in a timely or effective manner. We request NHTSA investigation into Ford’s handling of this camera recall and similar issues in other 2022 Explorers.

The driver's side impact airbag burst open when it deployed. This deposited unreacted airbag propellant on my skin, causing a severe chemical burn. The airbag is with the vehicle and currently in the yard of a local body shop, but which will soon turned over to my insurance company. To my knowledge, no investigation has yet been conducted regarding this equipment failure. There were no warning lamp or lights lit which would indicate that there was an issue with the associated Supplement Restraint Systems. I was the driver in a collision where the side impact airbags were deployed. I was wearing my seat belt. There was no intrusion of any foreign object into the cabin of the vehicle. I was not hit on the driver's side of the vehicle. When the side impact airbag deployed it tore open the left side of the t-shirt I was wearing and deposited unreacted airbag propellants on my skin. This delay not only creates confusion about whether the vehicle is in the correct gear, but also presents a potential safety hazard, as the vehicle may lurch forward when the driver intends to reverse. In addition, this gear shift delay causes the backup camera to display with a similar delay, reducing visibility and reaction time when maneuvering in reverse. This compromises the camera's effectiveness and the driver's ability to safely back up. I brought this issue to a Ford dealership, but I was told that there was nothing they could do about it. I find this response unsatisfactory, especially considering the safety implications. I would appreciate it if this issue could be further investigated and properly addressed. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and a resolution to this issue.

First Drivers window not working properly wont always go back up. Took to ford service and told needed a software update at my expense. I have a problem paying for an update that affects my car from working properly. This should be automatic if there are bugs to work out Second Significant air coming from back passenger window. Not under warranty as it is seal. Window very rarely used I have extended warranty however nothing covered. Glad I spent $3500 for that!! Third The plastic clips that hold the undercarriage in place break frequently. I have replaced several times both on my Explorer as well as husbands escape. Again I have to pay for this even though service guys tell me it won’t last because it’s plastic. Seems like ford could find something else to make these clips out of. I put a lot of highway miles on so rain and snow on roads create these clips to break often. The noise it makes when they r broken is ridiculous to go along with the air from the back window I have owned 3 explorers never experienced any window or software updates with previous explorers. $300 to update software and a quote for $80 for clips and $1000 for passenger window - Ford tells me it’s my problem. My concern is ford hold control over the software so they can create these updates whenever and if I want my car to run and use the windows my hands are tied. There is no charge from Verizon to update my cell phone all the time for updates and such but I’m expected to pay for ford updates. I’m not ok with this and will be looking at other options for future vehicle. They all have their issues but customer service goes along well in acknowledging the problems Google window problems and wind noise and updates clearly noted

2022 Ford Explorer Limited issues: 49K miles, when putting the vehicle in reverse and press gas it does not engage, it rolls and takes a few seconds before it engages. Powertrain Failure/Malfunction causes vehicle to bog down, low power, and vibration in rear. Once you turn vehicle off the error goes away only to come up again around 75 mph. Vibration also occurs at 30-40 mph and again at 60-70 mph, rear captains seats shake and passenger can feel in front seat. Dealer is aware, this is the 3rd time in 1 month it’s done this.

Every component of the braking system signaled a fault & associated alerts simultaneously. Nearly a complete brake failure occurred (almost caused me to run into an intersection at a red light). Brakes maintained very little pressure even with pumping them, approx every 5th time I stopped pressure was regained. Quadrupled the braking distance. ABS, parking brake, etc - all failed. Managed to get the car to dealer service (hazard lights & slow driving). Car still at dealer service garage. Brake fluid levels are fine, no apparent leaks. Service intake tech replicated the issue but the mechanics could not. I refused to take the the car back without further work.

Every morning when I go to leave in my 2022 Ford Explorer when it's cold or not. I go to start the vehicle and it automatically says that their is a malfunction in the brake system that it requires service right away. That advance track and a whole bunch of safety systems had failed. The instrument cluster is lit up like a Christmas tree. Then when you do put the Explorer into reverse, your foot almost hits the floor board and automatically starts rolling backward until you slam on the brake hoping it will stop. Then when it flashes stating that the Electronic parking brake is still engaged when it clearly isn't. Then you basically have no brakes until the vehicle "warms up", once you reach normal operating temperature on the Ford explorer you can park and shut off the car release the automatic parking brake then reengage the parking brake and it feels like it's missing the catch mechanism when your foot it on the brake l. Like it tries to engage but then doesn't. Then you open the door then close it, lock the car and wait 2-6 minutes for all the gauges to turn off then you unlock the car open the door press the start button without the brake to confirm no error codes pop back on and if they door you have to reengage the auto brake system off and on. Then rinse and repeat, then when it "fixes" itself no lights turn on and your brake returns to normal. About 50% of the time. Half the time when you first try to drive away the brakes give out and the same errors reoccur. Its extremely unsafe I've had this car for a year and half I brought this issue to multiple Ford dealerships and they say it would be 3 weeks before they could even look at it. I don't have that kind of time. I work and I have a [XXX] daughter and fiance to worry about. This needs to be remedied ASAP. I am planning on taking it to another dealer and the police department to find out what I can do. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I'd had the vehicle to the dealer on 3 occasions, whereby I've just learned the issue was improperly diagnosed by another dealer as a faulty camera, but the real problem of a faulty processor was diagnosed and therefore not replaced. This issue puts me, other vehicles and pedestrians in particular risk as there is not rear camera image being projected. The problem has been confirmed by two dealers, diagnosed and now indication is to repair it. This is clearly part of the broader issues Ford is having with rear camera back-up systems.

This is one Ford dealer, but it should be something that is investigated as it might be easily overlooked. On [XXX] my 2022 Ford Explorer was involved in a collision during my morning commute to work. On [XXX] while stopped at a stoplight across from Sheetz, with the auto brake hold engaged for a minute or two already, my vehicle accelerated forward into the vehicle in front of me. The impact was so sudden that the driver of the vehicle I collided with thought I had been rear ended. While I had contacted my insurance company (Erie Insurance) regarding the collision, I had also reached out to my service center, Laurel Ford (Windber, PA), concerning the incident. Because of my concerns with the auto brake hold and Copilot system with the collision, they had me bring it in on 16 September to run diagnostics. Later that day on the 16th, I had received a phone call from the service tech letting me know that he did find system error logs approx. 40 minutes prior to the collision. He let me know that he was going to keep diagnosing and will be most likely reaching out to his next level service support. The next day on the 17th, the service technician called me back to let me know that when he reported the issue to his support center he was advised to park the vehicle, not let it be driven, and for the service manager to get with me to file a report (Ford reference # XXX). Since that time, nothing more has happened with my Explorer. I have both the current manufacturer's warranty and Ford Protect warranty. The most recent update from Laurel Ford was that Ford Corporate said a Field Service Engineer needed to evaluate the issue. The Laurel Ford Service Center is no longer getting replies from corporate and has a regional manager involved, with no luck so far. It has been an extreme burden and has been beyond stressful using my wife's car for work, l'm in the military and my base is over 40 miles away, while she relies on friends/family to get to her work and also make sure that both of my kids get to their activities. In reverse you sometimes supply the gas in the car just sits there and doesn’t move and then it will quickly move backwards dangerously. There’s also a hesitation on acceleration and harsh shifting. I’ve had it to the dealer where they reset and reloaded the transmission software, it seem to smooth out the driving a little bit, but it’s been four months and it’s pretty much back the way it was originally, harsh, shifting, delayed power.

I was parked facing down hill. All of the lights in my car were flickering. My headlights were also flickering I'm assuming because I was parked facing downhill the water ran towards the front of my car. I had it towed to my ford dealership through the Ford app. I called the next day and they told me it was most likely due to a clogged sunroof drain tube and even though my bumper to bumper warranty just expired 20 days before when I financed my lease, the cost of the repairs would be on me because cleaning the drainage tubes is part of routine maintenance. I brought up the fact that I purchased an extended warranty that covered seals and gaskets and they said it didn't cover water leaks. They also told me they wouldn't get around to looking at it until sometime next week and that I couldn't not get a rental until it was diagnosed. So now I am stuck with no vehicle. I have no idea the extent of the damage and I can't afford it fix it since I just put my life savings down as a down-payment on the car on the end of November and have a $335/month car payment for the next 6 years because I thought purchasing my lease would be safe because I know I took care of my car and had it maintenced under fords maintenance schedule.

On 10/28/2024 at approximately 0515 I was traveling at 51 MPH when my 2022 Ford Explorer King Ranch edition with ~25k miles experienced catastrophic engine failure. The vehicle had no prior indication of failure. No engine light, no warning lights, etc. The vehicle started shaking violently and lost all power. I was able to safely pull to the shoulder of a two-lane road. The vehicle was completely dead and would not start. I am not sure if there was oil or anything leaking as it was dark outside. I called a tow truck and had the car taken to the Ford dealership. After initial inspection, the dealership moved the car to the "heavy maintenance" part of the service department. After a few days, I called to find out what they found and was informed the engine had "thrown a rod" and the entire engine would have to be replaced. After a week and a half, I called back and was told they are still disassembling the engine and their next step will be to submit a "cost cap" to Ford for permission to replace the engine. After researching the issue online, I came across the Safety recall 24V-598 on engine failures in the 3.3L size engine, typically only on police interceptor versions of the Ford Explorer. The information in the recall sounded exactly like what happened to my explorer but was told by the dealer the 3.0L engines were not affected and they had never seen one fail like this. I truly believe the 3.0L engine sizes are affected and the recall should be expanded to include this version of the explorer. I was lucky that I was able to safely drift to the side of the road, however, others may not be that lucky.

Below are my responses to above questions... - What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? ANSWER: A rear axle bolt may fracture. They have inspected months ago. - How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? ANSWER: I am concern for my wife's safety. - Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? ANSWER: Koons is very aware as I have reached out to service advisors, and sent correspondence (web site emails...don't have copies though) between APR24 - JUL24. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? ANSWER: Yes; months ago. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? ANSWER: Not that we are aware of. Our trigger was the letter sent to us in November 2023. Summary: The letter we received is dated November 2023, we started reaching out to Koons in April 2024, and constantly following up with them. All the same answer...waiting for the part to arrive. That only 5 of these parts come out once a week. I finally gave up in July 2024, as I advised them (by sending web site email, and sending service advisor cell phone a test that we communicate by) that I was going to report to problem to your agency. No response back from either of them. I have written down dates and each time I reached out to them with no luck at all, which is on the original recall letter. To be honest, I am very concern as this is my wife's vehicle to drive. I have advised her to use her parking brake when parking, but understand that there is other impacts if the axle would crack.

I then returned the vehicle to Ford and stated that it did not solve the problem. The service technician stated that they contacted an engineer, Ford, and they noted that it was the nature of that transmission and that nothing else could be done. The technician also noted that the vehicle will not upshift from 4th gear to 1st gear when trying to accelerate. The bottom line up front is that transmission stalling the way it does is a safety issue for a police department or any driver.

On 4 separate occasions the brakes on this Explorer failed to engage. The first incident happened as I was backing out of my garage and the brakes did not engage immediately. This resulted in my damaging our trellis. I was traveling at about 5 mph This happened Sept. 2023. The second incident happened as I was coming out of the car wash and applied the brake, but it did not engage and this resulted in a small fender bender with the car in front of me.- Again very slow speed, about 2 MPH Happened in November 2023. The third incident was on the road as I approached a car stopped for a red light. Again the brakes failed to engage, but I was able to avoid the car in front of me by swerving into the lane to the left. Fortunately no car was approaching on that lane this happened November 2023. The final incident again was on the road. The car in front of me was stopped for a left turn and I applied the brakes, the car did not stop so I swerved to the right onto a lawn and side swiped a tree before the brakes finally took hold. I was slowed down to about 30 MPH happened inJanuary 2024.. This failure in the car braking system has resulted in a substantial money loss . After these incidents I am no longer driving the car. I contacted the dealership and they would not look at the vehicle until it was repaired. We will be returning the car to the dealership for their evaluation of the problem.

When engaging vehicle from park to gear (ex drive, reverse) or from gear into park there is a delay. Meaning vehicle doesn’t engage into drive or reverse when it is placed in that gear, it will take a moment for gear to engage, sometimes resulting in a jerking motion of vehicle. This jerking motion also happens when vehicle is automatically shifting as speed (rpm) increase. There is also a delay when pacing the vehicle from a moving gear into park, there is a delay of vehicle locking into park, sometimes motion is still felt.

2022 Ford Explorer bought brand new from dealership, began noticing lagging in vehicle when going from DRIVE to REVERSE. Car will stall between drive and reverse in the neutral position for a period of time longer than normal (up to 10 seconds). This occurs on a regular basis, multiple times while blocking a road or parking lot while attempting to back into a parking spot, at which time vehicle appears to be in neutral and will roll forward or backward if not holding the brake which could cause the vehicle to hit buildings, people, other cars, etc. Only one warning light came on at one time stating “Transmission Fault stuck in park” and vehicle would not move or go into another gear. Vehicle taken to a ford dealer at which time they stated they did see the fault, did an update on the computer system which seemed to stop it and if it persisted the shifter would need replaced. Within only 1-2 days after leaving the dealership the car began to regularly and recurrently have the same fault of delaying from drive to reverse. Ford would not give me an appt until may. In March I put the car in reverse in front of my child's daycare, it drove forward, hit a large vase and damaged the front end. Ford was contacted and again told me the earliest they could get me an appt was may. I recorded all events from there forward. In May my car was inspected and numerous error codes were found. One of which was a "gear shift lock solenoid/actuator circuit 'A' range/performance". They ultimately fixed the faulty shifter. But refuse to repair the front end damage to the vehicle caused by the malfunctioning shifter stating "I should have braked". There was a list of error codes they told me have been addressed but on the final invoice it also states one has not. But they have refused to provide me with a list of interpretation for the errors codes. 2. This faulty gear shift could have resulted in severe injury to myself or a bystander. When I contacted ford after the accident they continued to disregard my safety concerns and would not provide me w an early appointment to investigate these serious problems 3. See answer 1 4. No. The car functioned normally from purchase date in mid December to mid-late Feb when symptoms began without warning and occurred intermittently until the car was assessed the first week of May

Vehicle is as purchases brand new in august 2022. After a few months when engaging reverse, there is a lag time of 3-10 seconds. The reverse screen in dash does not engage as well. Local dealer “fixed” in February 2023 at roughly 5k miles. Issue has returned. When brought to dealer beginning of May 2023. We were informed they would not work on it as it’s a known issue with no fix. Issue is creating problems when attempting parallel parks, k-turns, parking, anything to do in the road requiring timliness and safe execution of parking. When vehicle has the lag time it is not in gear and wil roll if on an incline.

Upon cold start exhaust burns blue smoke. Vehicle was taken to dealership and diagnosed with a bad turbo seal, resulting in motor being removed and turbo replaced on passenger side at 2865 miles. Now a 6439 miles the drives side turbo seal is causing the same issue, blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust on cold starts. Car is driven with care and not abused in anyway. Other owners of the same version of this vehicle with two turbos are also experiencing the same issue. For both environmental and safety reasons, these engines should be recalled and inspected for this premature failure.

I can hear the fuel in my gas tank "sloshing" around. It is most obvious at slower speed when backing and pulling forward. I would assume there are some sort of "baffles" missing in the fuel tank. I have had the "sloshing" sounds confirmed by the local Ford dealer's service department. They say they can not resolve the matter. In Jan 2003, I reported the issue to Ford Customer Service (Case #4069-6889). I am not sure this situation presents a safety hazard but wanted to report it to NHTSA for consideration, and for the record. Thank you.

When shifting from Drive to Reverse there is a delay ranging from 4-15 seconds before it engages. I have not been able to identify what it is that makes the delay more or less, but there is always a delay. I usually need to back into my driveway, so pulling past it and then selecting Reverse results in one bump (into Neutral) after several seconds. If the throttle is applied the engine rpm will increase with no movement of the vehicle until there is another bump when it finally engages Reverse. If I sit in place with foot on the brake and wait from the two "bumps" (Neutral and then Reverse) the Reverse bump will sometimes jolt the vehicle backwards. I purchased the vehicle with 1,900 miles on it and at present have 5000 miles on it. It has exhibited this behavior since I have had it. When going from Park into Reverse there does not seem to be a delay.

This happens when the speed signs on the road change. This past week I used my cruise control for a long trip. I was on a highway that changed the posted speed from 55 to 65 mph. The cruise control suddenly went from the posted speed of 55 mph to 85 mph. This is very concerning! It has happened several times and I can no longer use the cruise controller. Since "fixing" my vehicle with retrofitted 2nd row HVAC controls, the 2nd row heating is unable to be controlled from the front, which means if you have a child in a car seat who can't reach the 2nd row controls you must reach behind while driving to adjust the heat. If you try to adjust from the front controls, it shuts off the overhead vents and only blows from one 3rd row floor vent, which doesn't provide much heat for the 2nd row passengers. The AC controls work properly when controlled from the front. I've taken my vehicle to Ford several times and they tried reprogramming, etc. and compared to other vehicles of the same model year and said they are functioning the same as mine. I believe this poses a serious safety risk as who is not going to attempt to reach back to provide some heat to a cold child?

On another day, my husband was in the car with me and as I was reversing - he said "your alert didn't go off, this is probably why you hit that tree." I was unaware until today (1/30) that there is an active recall on my car for this issue. I had the damage fixed in November at Gerber Collision Center in Sebastian FL (Micco Rd). The cost of the fix was $2046 out of pocket (did not claim through insurance). Rear-driver side lamp, bumper, quarter panel. Invoice for repairs is included for detail in what all needed to be fixed. During a 2000 mile road trip, the front passenger seatbelt was nearly cut through at the point where the seatbelt exits the tensioner above the passenger's right shoulder. The location of the cut along the length of the webbing aligns with the position of the webbing when the seatbelt was in use by the front passenger. Based upon the location and nature of the cut, it appears that some surface within the assembly was sharp enough to cut through the section of belt. There were no injuries associated with this incident. The vehicle was parked as soon as we reached our destination and no passengers are allowed to sit in the front right passenger seat until the issue is corrected. The seat belt tensioner / pre-tensioner assembly was examined by the Ford Dealership in Taber, AB, Canada on 22 DEC 2022. Brand new 2022 Ford Explorer Timberline purchased May 14th of this year. While accelerating, our vehicle is giving off strong exhaust fumes through the cabin. The fowl odor coming through the vents made a Carbon monoxide monitor go off. The smells have been intermittent and have no rhyme or reason when this occurs, but only when we are driving wether it's on the freeways, or through residential areas. This has been a consumer safety concern while driving my family around in fumes, since we purchased the vehicle, and to include we've made 8 trips to the dealership and they've attempted to pin point and rectify our complaint and unfortunatley haven't been successful. It has been to another dealership for a second opinion, and they have too, smelled the odors while driving but didn't inspect further. The vehicle only has 5700 miles on it and is not safe to drive. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINEApril 28, 2022
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V088000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and an appointment was scheduled to determine whether the vehicle was safe to drive. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that they were focusing on repairing the unsold vehicles first. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The contact stated upon refueling in the vehicle, the fuel shut-off valve failed to stop fuel from being pumped when the gas tank was full, causing a fuel leak. The failure mileage was approximately 1,400. Parts distribution disconnect.

This is my second submission. I will continue to submit to attempt to have NHTSA find out why FORD will only offer a software tweak to fix a very dangerous physical issue with all 20-22 Ford Explorers. Ford provided Advance Notice 22S27 to dealers dated 4/19/22 advising them to STOP delivery of any in stock Explorer due to a possible bolt fracture on the rear subframe which if cracked will disable the vehicle. Their "fix" is a software update that will reduce power to avoid acceleration which will put stress on the bolt. Ford decided to remove the second bolt from all the Explorers which subsequently will put stress on the one bolt they left intact. Ford needs to recall and put that bolt back on the subframe as the vehicle was originally designed to have. Please, please address this issue with Ford to make them fix the physical issue!

Ford released a bulletin - 22S27- to all dealers to immediately stop demo/delivery for all new Explorers in stock as of 4/19/22. At issue is a possibility of a fractured bolt that causes the differential to separate and cause "severe vibration" rendering the vehicle disabled. No fix was mentioned other than a software update possibly by the end of June 22 (2d qtr). This is serious if dealers are told to stop delivery! I just got mine in the beginning of April. Ford needs to step up and address this to ALL owners and not just dealers. It appears that Ford is waiting for failure of the parts before allowing any repairs. So far, only software is mentioned which supposedly throttles the engine to avoid putting stress on the rear end. This of course does NOT address the physical issue with a fractured bolt. Apparently, Ford redesigned the differential to use only one bolt vs two they had used earlier. Please pursue this as soon as possible with Ford to make them put out an emergency recall to resolve this very serious defect in manufacturing. Normally, recalls are for something that can be addressed eventually based on reported issues. However, there have not been that many incidents. For Ford to issue this notice to dealers indicates the seriousness or expected seriousnes. Thank you for your attention!

The windshield just cracked on its own no rock hit it. I rolled down side window to order food and when I rolled it up it spread all over and now leaking inside windshield. Also driving with side windows down the windows vibrate very shaky it doesn’t do that in any other vehicle f150 doesn’t vibrate at all.
