Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Sonata Hybrid vehicles manufactured December 8, 2014, to August 18, 2015, and Hyundai Sonata vehicles manufactured May 28, 2014, to March 18, 2016, equipped with the panoramic sunroof option. Due to a bonding issue with the sunroof wind deflector, the sunroof panel on the affected vehicles may detach while driving.
Consequence: If the sunroof detaches from the vehicle it could become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair the wind deflector anchor plate, free of charge. The recall began December 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 152.
Component: PARKING BRAKE:INDICATOR LIGHT
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Sonata and Genesis vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the warning light to indicate that the parking brake is applied may intermittently not illuminate in the dash due to corrosion in the switch.
Consequence: If the parking brake indicator is not illuminated when the parking brake is applied, the driver may operate the vehicle with the parking brake partially engaged, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake switch, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 164.
since i have owned this car they have replaced the knock sensor twice. there is a recall on the engine for crank bearing wear, my car now is burning through 5 quarts of oil every 2 weeks with no oil leak spots on the ground. i would like them to replace the engine as per the recall. the knock sensor should be an indication of the bearings going bad. i have been getting the run around from the dealer in Salem, Oregon. so, i would like some assistance with this problem thank you for your time.
CAR STOPPED ON THE ROAD LAST WEEK 4/6/26 COULD NOT START HAD TO GET TOWED MECHANIC SAYS NO OIL IN ENGINE RECEIVED OIL CHANGE LAST MONTH
I will take 10k$ for the car or a new engine and steering, damages fixed. . I also need a rental by April 10th and $300 for inconvenience thus far. The engine stalled twice when driving over 2 months! The lawyer won't be forgiving.
Engine seized driving down the interstate doing 65 MPH in rush hour traffic could have been rear ended or hit vehicles around me trying to get off the road. Complete loss of power. Power steering was still active brakes were barely working. No warning lights (I had the knock sensor recall performed). Engine simply locked up solid. I was able to safely make it to the disabled vehicle lane and put the car in park. Engine had no sludge buildup and looked excellent once it was disassembled by the dealer. All engine bearings had spun. Engine was completely replaced under the extended warrenty.

Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Sonata vehicles manufactured May 29, 2014 to February 11, 2016, 2017 Elantra vehicles manufactured January 12, 2016 to February 22, 2016, and one 2016 Sonata Hybrid vehicle manufactured October 15, 2015. In these vehicles, the driver's frontal air bag may be missing a chemical enhancer required for the second stage air bag deployment, resulting in the second stage not deploying in certain crashes. The primary stage will deploy as intended.
Consequence: An air bag that does not inflate increases the risk of injury.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began on May 5,2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 144.
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Sonata vehicles manufactured May 28, 2014, to August 21, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with an Antilock Braking System (ABS) warning light intended to warn the driver if there is an ABS malfunction. In the event of an ABS malfunction, the Brake System warning light will illuminate, but the ABS warning light will not illuminate. Since the vehicles have ABS malfunction lights that do not illuminate, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
Consequence: If the driver is alerted there is a brake system malfunction, but not specifically with the ABS system, the driver may operate the vehicle unaware that the vehicle's brakes may lock up during hard braking, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS control unit software, free of charge. The recall is expected began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 134.
Component: SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015 Sonata vehicles manufactured April 25, 2014, to December 4, 2014. The affected vehicles have a front passenger seat belt whose buckle latch assembly may prevent the front passenger from fastening the seat belt.
Consequence: If the front passenger seat belt cannot be latched, an occupant sitting in the front passenger seat has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair or replace the front passenger seat belt buckle, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 130.
Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015 Sonata vehicles manufactured April 25, 2014, through June 16, 2014. Due to a manufacturing error, one or both of the front brake calipers may fracture.
Consequence: If a brake caliper fractures, brake effectiveness would be reduced, lengthening to distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Hyundai contacted the affected owners on June 19, 2014 and instructed them not to drive their vehicles. Hyundai dealers will replace the affected brake calipers, free of charge. The recall began on September 12, 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 120.
Component: STEERING
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015 Sonata vehicles manufactured May 2, 2014, through May 23, 2014. A poor connection within the vehicle's wiring harness may result in a reduction of steering assist from the vehicle's motor driven power steering system or the inability to move the vehicle's shifter from the Park position.
Consequence: The reduction of power steering assist can increase the steering effort needed, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Hyundai notified dealers to suspend sales of affected Sonata vehicles and has published recall bulletin 14-01-024 providing a service procedure to repair the affected vehicles. On June 7, 2014 Hyundai began to contact the affected retail customers. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 119.
Component: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 1.6 liter model year 2015 Sonata vehicles manufactured August 29, 2014, to October 28, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been assembled with an incorrect left axle shaft which may result in the shaft separating from the transaxle differential.
Consequence: If the left axle shaft separates from the transaxle, the vehicle may stop moving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a separated axle shaft may allow the vehicle to roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, dealers will inspect and replace the axle shaft, as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 126.
Component: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Sonata, 2016-2017 Sonata Hybrid, and Sonata Plug-In Hybrid vehicles. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) software logic may not properly interpret the signals received from the multifunction switch, which could cause the turn signal to activate in the opposite direction of what the driver intended.
Consequence: A turn signal that activates in the opposite direction of what was intended by the driver increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the SJB software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 19, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 210.
Hyundai dealership diagnosed my vehicle with engine failure, including a failed compression test and cylinder with no compression, and stated the engine required replacement. The dealership later refused to process the repair and attributed the issue to oil condition, contradicting their prior confirmed diagnosis. The vehicle became undrivable after the diagnosis and has remained in that condition. The refusal to address a confirmed engine failure raises concerns about a known defect and improper denial practices.
The bearing failure from the metal debris had been progressing silently for a long time. You can’t feel or hear it happening gradually. Then at some point the damage crosses a threshold where: ∙The oil can no longer circulate properly ∙The crankshaft bearings completely fail ∙Internal metal parts make contact with each other ∙Everything locks up instantly
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the panoramic sunroof detached from the vehicle. The hazard lights were activated, and the vehicle was pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway. The contact attempted to close the cover and was able to close it halfway. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the failure reoccurred. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and attempted to close the cover, but the cover failed to close. The contact drove the vehicle while holding the sunroof cover with the other hand. The contact stated that the wind kept lifting the detached panoramic sunroof. The vehicle was taken to a collision center to reattach the panoramic sunroof. The employee removed the panoramic sunroof and placed the sunroof on the passenger seat. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V726000 (VISIBILITY). However, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My engine is a class action lawsuit and Hyundai refuses to honor their extended warranty because my title has a brand on it. (Odometer issues) My car has been a the dealer for a month and Hyundai refuses even though it's a safety issue and a defect in their design. I want a new engine. The car is perfect otherwise.
FEDERAL REPORT ON TECHNICAL OBSTRUCTION AND WARRANTY FRAUD (THETA II SETTLEMENT) TO: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) FROM: [XXX] VIN: [XXX] REPAIR ORDER (RO#): XXX VEHICLE LOCATION: Hyundai Shop - [XXX] HYUNDAI CORPORATE CASE: #XXX STATE COMPLAINT (AZ AG): XXX I. CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS AND EVASIVE TACTICS All documentary evidence has been formally submitted to Hyundai Motor America’s National Consumer Affairs Department, addressed to Case Manager Bryan, at [XXX] and via the official email: [XXX] . STEP 1: Falsification of Title Status (Code A99) Hyundai initiated its denial by alleging that the vehicle held a "Salvage" title status, citing internal code A99. EVIDENCE: I possess a Certified and Stamped Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Arizona MVD, as well as my Clean Title. Mr. Bryan categorically asserted that code A99 "cannot be removed," thereby deliberately disregarding an Official State Certification. STEP 2: Allegation of Negligence (Karen) Corporate representative Karen claimed via telephone that the vehicle's failure was attributable to "negligent maintenance." EVIDENCE: The Official WebDCS report—printed by Mr. Ismael Barragán (Service Drive Manager)—completely refutes this claim; the Blue Link service history indicates "0 FINDINGS." STEP 3: Fabricated Diagnosis and Breakdown of Improper Charges After being compelled by Mr. Bryan to take the vehicle to the dealership for a diagnosis, the narrative shifted to an "Oil Pump Failure." Mr. Ismael Barragán (Service Drive Manager) presented a billing estimate to the customer under Repair Order (RO) #XXX, itemized as follows: Mechanical Diagnosis: 193.00 USD Engine Replacement/Rebuild: 11,980.58 USD TOTAL DEMANDED FROM CONSUMER: 12,173.58 USD TECHNICAL EMPHASIS: The Blue Link report (showing 0 Findings) serves as irrefutable INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle was a private sale. The vehicle was purchased on March 1, 2026. The mileage at the time of the purchase was 41,486. I was driving on the highway and the engine shut off but everything else remained on. I drifted to the breakdown lane and turned the car off. It would not start again and the car began acting up by turning lights on and off, telling me to check the tire pressure, and not unlocking the doors. I then saw some very light smoke from the engine compartment. I popped the hood and looked and saw a glow on the bottom side of the engine area. Then the car just went up in flames.
Check Engine light is flashing on dashboard. Reduced Vehicle speed. Car will not drive beyond 62 miles.Lost of power during acceleration.
The contact’s daughter owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. While driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the owner that the failure would not be covered under warranty due to a lack of engine maintenance on the vehicle. The owner provided the maintenance records. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
